Across our sport, there are over 900 licensed trainers with the knowledge, expertise and resources to raise healthy, happy and successful racing greyhounds.

The vast majority of them will be supported by a team of dedicated kennel staff who ensure that their dogs have the care and attention they need to succeed and thrive.

Applying for a Trainer Licence

There are two types of licences available to trainers:

  • Professional Trainer (who can train up to their maximum kennel capacity in any ownership)
  • Greyhound Trainer (who can train up to 12 greyhounds in any ownership)

If you already hold a Trainer’s Licence, you can renew this via your My Kennel account.

If you are not yet licensed, please see our Greyhound Trainer & Professional Trainer Application.

Please return completed forms to GBGB via post. For this, you will need to provide proof of identity (either a copy of a UK driving licence or passport) and proof of address (a recent utilities bill or letter showing your current address).

Applying for a Kennelhand Licence

Kennel staff working directly with racing greyhounds are also required to be licensed by GBGB. There are three different licence options for these staff:

  • Kennelhand (no previous experience required)
  • Head Kennelhand (for this, you need at least one year’s experience as a Kennelhand)
  • Assistant Trainer (for this, you need at least two years’ experience as Head Kennelhand)

To apply for any of the above licences online, you will need to ask the trainer who employs you to do so via their My Kennel Trainer’s Account.

Alternatively, you can download a Kennelhand Licence Application, which should be completed by the trainer who employs you and returned to GBGB via post. You will need to provide proof of identity (either a copy of a UK driving licence or passport) and proof of address (a recent utilities bill or letter showing your current address) and two passport-size photos.
