RGT receives £56,000 donation from BAGS

The Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) has received a £56,000 donation from the Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service (BAGS), to support two specific initiatives in the first half of 2014.

This donation follows a £65,000 contribution from BAGS earlier in the year which helped fund several projects to raise awareness of the work of the Trust and the suitability of greyhounds as pets, and to develop the Trust’s donor base.

Peter Laurie, Chief Executive of the RGT said:

“We’re delighted to receive this further support from BAGS. Thanks to their generosity this year we have been able to promote greyhounds to new audiences and develop our fundraising streams and with this new contribution we will be able to continue to invest in the future of the charity.

“This funding will in part sponsor our biennial conference next April that will bring together volunteers from our branches across Britain to identify and share best practice. It will also enable us to move forward with the next stage of our online development strategy, ensuring we have the technology in place to maximise the promotional and fundraising benefits that digital technology can deliver."

Tom Kelly, Chairman of BAGS added:

“BAGS is impressed by the work of the RGT and is delighted to provide further support for this excellent organisation.   We look forward to the day when Andrew Higgins, Peter Laurie and the team hit their target of finding homes for all greyhounds requiring their services."

BAGS has become a very important supporter of the Retired Greyhound Trust in recent years, this contribution following similar donations in 2011 and 2012.
