Annie Poole to leave GBGB

Annie Poole, Welfare and Integrity Co-ordinator at the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) is to leave the organisation at the end of November, 2013. Annie joined the GBGB as Registry Administrator in January 2010 and has since become responsible for co-coordinating the activities of the welfare department, a role that includes administering grants for trainers and rehoming organisations, dealing with greyhounds on their retirement from racing and providing support for the sport’s anti-doping and medication activities. Annie is also responsible for organising the GBGB Awards.

Duncan Gibson, GBGB Manager of Welfare and Integrity Services said:

“It has been a joy to work closely with Annie for the past three years. Annie cares greatly for greyhounds, she even refers to her whippets as children and it is that level of compassion that has seen her form solid relationships with greyhound trainers, owners and welfare charities.

“Annie is a real asset to GBGB, respected by her colleagues and will be difficult to replace but we all wish her every success in her new position at the Rugby Football Union. I would like to thank Annie on behalf of everyone at GBGB and the wider industry for her contribution to the sport.”

Annie Poole commented:

“Everyone who knows me is aware that I’ve been involved in greyhound racing since I was a youngster through my dad’s passion for racing and I can sincerely say that it is with reluctance that I’m moving on but the opportunity arose in another sport close to my heart. I’ve enjoyed my time at GBGB as part of a hardworking team. I hope that whoever takes over my role gets as much pleasure from it as I have and can build on the relationships we have formed.

“Great work is done everyday all over the country by those committed to improving greyhound welfare and I intend on continuing my involvement with my local RGT branch.  I have made some wonderful friends within the industry and I am thankful for their support through good times and bad. Going racing is in my genes so please come and say hello the next time you see me at a track!”
