Cornamaddy Jumbo is Greyhound of the Year

The GBGB Greyhound of the Year Awards were held on Sunday January 25th at the Lancaster London with over 420 people in attendance. For the first time kennelhand of the year was awarded posthumously; to Peter Dangerfield, formerly a kennelhand to Ernie Gaskin. The Harry Lloyd services to greyhound racing award was given to Alan Findlay of Pinpoint Recuitment in recognition of the company’s substantial sponsorships. Sky sports presenter Julie Collier was awarded the George Ford Services to Retired Greyhounds Award for her work for the charity, including the Fall For Hounds sponsored sky dive, which raised over £100,000 for the Retired Greyhound Trust.

Greyhound Award winners were:

Coral Newcomer of the Year; Newinn Yolo, trained by Pat Rosney and owned by Kevin Heilbron

GBGB Bitch of the Year; Roxholme Dream, trained by Hayley Keightley and owned by Hayley- Ciara and the Dream Boys.

Racing Post TV 2014 British Bred Greyhound of the Year; Salad Dodger, trained by Bruno Berwick and owned by Bruno Berwick and Ron Mills.

GBGB Best Dam of British Bred Litter; Hawks Dutchess, owned by Jim Hayton.

GBGB Graded Greyhound of the Year; Nadurra Alvaro, owned and trained by John McLachlan (Shawfield)

Betfred Sprinter of the Year; Geelo Vegas, trained by Carl Perry and owned by Geelo Racing.

SIS Marathon Performer of the Year; King Kane, trained by Diane Henry and owned by Andrew Griffiths and John Lynk.

Press Association 2014 Stayer of the Year; Roxholme Dream trained by Hayley Keightley and owned by Hayley- Ciara and the Dream Boys.

Pinpoint Recruitment Hurdler of the Year; Cornamaddy Jumbo, trained by Mark Wallis and owned by the Lil Risky Fan Club.

William Hill Standard Distance Performer of the Year was Newinn Yolo, trained by Pat Rosney and owned by Kevin Heilbron.

Human Award winners:

GBGB Owner of the Year; K.S.S. Syndicate

Ladbrokes Trainer of the Year; Mark Wallis

 

Peterborough were also awarded their BAGS Track Championship trophy, which they won at Nottingham on December 23rd last year.

This year’s much anticipated Greyhound of the Year was announced as hurdler Cornamaddy Jumbo, whose 2014 successes included the never previously achieved treble of the three key hurdle races of the year – the William Hill Springbok, Champion Hurdle and the Friends of Sittingbourne Grand National.
