Latest News All England Cup - Newcastle Newcastle 480m (£10,000)

The big story of round-one was that the 2015 Scottish Derby, Select Stakes and Gold Cup champion Swift Hoffman crashed out of the All England Cup. He was not the only big name to fall at the first hurdle; Jimmy Wright's Minglers Thunder, the emphatic Steel City Cup champion was also eliminated. It was not all doom and gloom for Pat Rosney and Jimmy Wright though; between them they managed to safely qualify five greyhounds to the semi-finals. (Pat Rosney; Aero Inferno, Ascot Woodie and Swift Carter) Jimmy Wright; Droopys Vodka and Maum Legend)

By George He's Still Got It

Calzaghe George was having his 50th race in the first-round and this August 2012 whelp (Cashen Legend - Emmerdale Baby) arguably put in his best display to date for trainer Ted Soppitt and owner Carl Roberts. This duo combined in 2013 with the great champion Calzaghe Davy and both would love nothing more than to add a second title in 2015 with Calzaghe George. He recorded a scintillating 4.53 sectional on his way to a comfortable 3.75L victory over Bramble Ted in a superb 28.48.

Carl Roberts Owner Of Calzaghe George

“I'm a massive Rugby fan and was still smiling about Wales and just when I thought it could not get any better my dogs put in a great display at Newcastle. I could not believe the run from Calzaghe George he was brilliant. The way he trapped but the most pleasing aspect for me was the way he stayed on. Ted Soppitt must get the credit he's worked so hard on him, he found a problem with him and he worked on it to get him right for the All England Cup and last night we saw the results.

I'm delighted with his draw for the semi-finals and I think he can win it I really do. We won this race a couple of years ago with Calzaghe Davy and I think George is a better dog. He loves trap-one and if he comes away like he can I'd be disappointed if he did not make the final.

I've had some brilliant dogs over the years my best being Droopys Shearer and we have won 15 category one finals. It would mean so much to me for George to win number 16 and for us to lift the All England Cup for a second time. This is why I buy the dogs for these big races I love it and hopefully we will get some luck”.
