WILLIAM HILL ST LEGER - WIMBLEDON 687m (£25,000)

Roxholme Dream is still in with a live chance of becoming the only greyhound in the history of the St Leger to defend her crown. Hayley Keightley's bitch rocketed out of the traps to set a blistering pace but was caught close home by strong stayer Droopys Tamera in the third quarter-final. Droopys Tamera crossed the line 1.5L in front of the defending champion with Ferryforth Fran plugging on well to qualify a further 1L back in 41.90. You have to give Droopys Tamera massive credit because this was an excellent performance but for Roxholme Dream the possibility of pulling off the magnificent feat of winning this great competition back-to-back lives on.

It was top quality racing in all the quarter-finals with Swansalona Diva and Ribble Atom serving up a cracker in the first. It was the British Bred star Swansalona Diva who was way out in front but the ultra impressive Ribble Atom stays this trip extremely strongly. Ribble Atom was flying at the death but went down in a photo-finish by a Short-Head in 41.71. Bullofstonehall keeps impressing and although 6.5L further back was a very worthy qualifier into the semi-finals.

Next up it was Diego Flight who impressed with an outstanding winning performance. He's made the transition to six-bends look easy and his 5.75L victory over Borna Champ was in no way flattering because he stopped the clock in a superb 41.67. Oneco Sky held on to that all important qualifying spot back in third and briefly led Diego Flight until he took over at the opening corner.

The fourth and final quarter-final was gut wrenching after greyhound racing was rocked by the death of top owner Mitch Millward who sadly lost his brave fight to cancer. The dream of Millwards Teddy winning the St Leger was over at the second-bend when last year's runner-up suffered an injury. I am sure I speak for everyone in greyhound racing when I say our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mitch Millward at this extremely sad time. Fizzypop Buddy ran out a comfortable 3.5L winner over Teejayspowerhawk with Jimmy Nailed On a further 1L back in third in 41.84.
