RFS PUPPY DERBY - WIMBLEDON 480m (£10,000)

What a competition this is! It's hard to get away from the showdown in the third semi-final. Ballymac Sheehy, Millwards Mates, Trade Freddie and Banabane all arrive here after impressive first-round victories. Roswell Iceman was only beaten in a photo-finish and Jaytee Spartacus is open to any amount of improvement. It is going to be a race to savour and some big name greyhounds are heading for the exit door.

Pat Buckley will be cursing his luck or will he after having his two greyhounds got drawn together. His immediate thought was probably one of disappointment but on reflection it is probably better than being in that 3rd semi-final. There is every chance it could be a one-two for Pat Buckley with the highly rated duo of Droopys Roddick and Droopys Nine.

Ballymac Ramsey looks the star attraction in the 1st semi-final and Barrie Draper will be hoping he marches to the final in style. There's plenty of good pups in it and he definitely can't afford any mistakes on the night.

Barrie Draper On Ballymac Ramsey and Ballymac Sheehy

“You don't win the competition in round-one but they both ran very well. I love puppy races because of the uncertainty these pups can turn their form on its head. Lots of good pups in this competition and it's a fantastic pointer for the Derby next year. We respect all these pups, on the night we got it right and ran well. Some got it wrong but importantly they still qualified for their connections and now have a chance to shine.

Ballymac Ramsey is still novicey that was only his third race and he is an exciting prospect. You make a mistake though and you get punished at this level. I'm happy with his draw and the dog is learning all the time.

Ballymac Sheehy is different; he is tried and tested being one of the oldest greyhounds in the competition. I'm happy with his draw, it's a tough race but you don't expect any easy ones at this level. If he comes away and gets on the rails he is a very good dog and he would take some beating. You can't get bullish though because pups can come back and bite you. We have to do it again and get it all right on Friday night.

Both these pups are exciting, its dogs like these that keep you going and give you a reason to get up in the morning. Looking ahead I think they will both have a big future in 2016”.
