EEC TIMBER OAKS - BELLE VUE 470m (£15,000)

With eleven railers and one middle seed chasing a place in the £15,000 to-the-winner decider the draw looked to be key. Supporters of the brilliant Derby Plate heroine Domino Storm knew she had to get everything right from a tricky trap-five draw and she was simply sensational. Domino Storm flew out from trap-five and moved across to take command before the first-bend with a display of fantastic early-pace. Once in front the Mark Wallis trained star was always going to be tough to catch. To her credit though Roxholme Hottie put in a big performance but Domino Storm slammed the door shut at the third-bend and would simply not be denied. She posted easily the fastest semi-final winning time of 27.88 (-30) in beating Roxholme Hottie 1 and 1/2 lengths with Bromwich Sue a further 2 and 1/4 lengths back in third.

Tyrur Caroline made it three wins from three in this year's oaks after cheating her tricky trap-five draw. She showed terrific pace to the corner and once she cut in to go around the first-bend in front the rest had a mountain to climb. It was another fine front running display from the Charlie Lister OBE trained star. Evanta Evita gave chase but the 4 length winning margin in no way flattered Turur Caroline this was an impressive display and she stopped the clock in 28.04 (-30). Newinn This Way ran with credit to grab that all important qualifying spot a further 1 and 1/4 lengths back in third.

We have our six finalists now and Wednesday's final worth a fantastic £15,000 is going to be some race. Both Mark Wallis (Domino Storm and Evanta Evita) and Charlie Lister OBE (Tyrur Caroline) have tasted Oaks success previously. Mark Wallis won the title last year in amazing fashion with Cashen Maureen and Charlie Lister OBE lifted the trophy back in 2011 with Silverview Perky. It speaks volumes about this competition when you think these giants of the sport Wallis and Lister OBE have only ever won this competition once each.

It's going to be a battle to the corner and whoever wins that race will most certainly have one paw on the Oaks trophy and the £15,000 winners cheque. Domino Storm and Tyrur Caroline both overcame tough semi-final draws from trap-five and now find themselves in more familiar territory. Tyrur Caroline drawn inside of Domino Storm could prove vital but if Domino Storm traps like she did in the semi-finals then we will have some race to savour.

Special mention must go to Evanta Evita and Bromwich Sue who both make the final for the second year in succession. That is some feat and both bitches deserve all the plaudits they get. You can't write off Evanta Evita who is a class act and a bullet break from her would definitely put her in to the reckoning. If it was to get messy up front then Bromwich Sue is strong and more than capable of taking advantage of any situation.

Roxholme Hottie and Newinn This Way have both impressed during this year's Oaks and it would be no surprise to see either of them end up on the podium.

Mark Wallis can make a piece of history if he can get Domino Storm or Evanta Evita over the line first by becoming the first trainer since Phil Rees Snr 1963/64 (Cranog Bet) to win back-to-back Oaks titles. It's an illustrious list of trainers who have pulled off this feat; Stanley Biss 1932/33 and a three timer in 1946/47/48, Jack Harvey in 1955/56 and again 1961/62. Can Mark Wallis become only the fourth trainer in history to win this great competition back-to-back? I decided to catch up with the trainer I simply call 'Champ' and asked him exactly that.

Mark Wallis on Domino Storm and Evanta Evita

“Both bitches are really well and I'm excited about the final. It won't be easy and it looks to be a very good final and with six railers in it, the break is very important. I think both of our bitches are definitely good enough to win an Oaks but they must dominate proceedings because I don't think they will come from behind on Wednesday night. If they trap to the best of their capabilities then either of them could pop around the first bend in front. Like I say, both are classy and have enjoyed fantastic careers and mixed it with the best in category one competitions, not just bitches stakes. It took me a long time to win my first Oaks and to win it back-to-back would be fantastic it really would. I did not know only three trainers have previously done that so it would be special to become the fourth and the first since the 1960's. It's a classy final and Tyrur Caroline, Roxholme Hottie and co will take some beating but if we get the break right it's definitely possible".
