Is O'Sullivan's 20 Year Wait Over?

The Springbok is a magical competition, involving Novice Hurdlers it can be unpredictable but it is always definitely exciting. Cornamaddy Jumbo won this last year and went on to be the first hurdler crowned Greyhound Of The Year!

Hurdle racing is an important part of the sport, just ask any newcomer watching the sport and they will tell you they 'love it'. We need more hurdle competitions and this year's Springbok has been a fantastic advert for the sport.

Barry O'Sullivan is the trainer of Reculver Ozzie who's been sensational and can boast a calculated time of 29.25. That is shifting over hurdles and the dogs raced through the Springbok so far unbeaten. In his semi-final he hit the first hurdle but did enough to beat Julius George by 0.5L in the fastest semi-final of 29.71 -10.

Julius George is interesting he was schooled by Barry and seems to have taken to it well. He must be sick of seeing the sight of Reculver Ozzie having played second fiddle to him in their last three meetings. He seems to be trapping much better and should he blast out then it would be no surprise to see him land the final.

Priceless Sun, Final Farloe, Barnagrane Ash and Joyful Master are here on merit but look like they must improve to figure. That is the beauty of this competition they are all open to any amount of improvement.

Make a note of these finalists because this will not be the last we here about them. The Champion Hurdle and Grand National will be obvious long-term targets. A special mention must go to Tony Taylor who's got Julius George and Final Farloe in the final and is a fantastic training performance.

Barry O'Sullivan Trainer Of Reculver Ozzie

'We've won the Grand National but I've been trying to win the Springbok for twenty-years and never managed it. On Tuesday I've my best chance but you need some luck and no jumping errors. Ozzie would not be the class of these dogs on the flat but he just loves jumping. He is a character and bit mad, he comes out the kennel like a bull but during this competition I've been delighted with him. I love hurdlers and schooling them it gives me a real buzz and if we did not win it I'd like to Julius George do it because I schooled him'.
