Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic - Monmore 630m (£7,500)

The Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic is a relative young competition joining the calendar in 2002. It may be young but it's served up some really memorable performances most notably in 2005 when dual Greyhound Derby champion Westmead Hawk took it in style. The most successful trainer in the competition is Chris Allsopp who's won it an amazing three times; Ten Dollars More 2010, Head Iton Jason 2011 and Afew Dollars More in 2013. So it made sense to catch up with Chris Allsopp and get the lowdown on his two runners Chevy Blazer and European Queen ahead of this exciting competition.

Chris Allsopp on Chevy Blazer and European Queen

'It's hard to compare these two runners with past winners; Head Iton Jason was a fantastic greyhound who never really got the plaudits he deserved. I think he was a brilliant greyhound with a huge appetite to win. Ten Dollars More was a great dog, not a speed merchant but he'd keep going and try his best to always win. Afew Dollars More was the exact opposite a bit quirky but he put his head down when it mattered and got us the victory.

Chevy Blazer was a finalist last year but is coming back from injury. She loves Monmore and is well in herself but is likely to come on for runs. If she can keep qualifying and make the final we will all be delighted. No doubt a big outsider but it would be no shock to me to see her go well in the competition.

European Queen is a class act, we are stepping in to the unknown with her having never gone this far before. I'm hoping she pings (you need to at Monmore over 630m with the short run to the bend) and out on the bunny let's see if she can see out the trip or not. She's got plenty of pace and she likes it when she can dominate proceedings. If she stays then she should be a big player but we won't know that till she runs it'.

Chris your starting to put together a nice team of greyhounds again can you give readers a greyhound under the radar that they should look out for?

'For sure; Barnagrane Glen, January 2014 bitch who's just had the one run winning it impressively by 11L in 28.60 at Cork. She looks a smart prospect and a young greyhound to get excited about'.

It's going to be an exciting competition and you can see how Chris Allsopp gets on live on BAGS/SIS this Monday in the heats. It won't be easy this competitions attracted the very best stayers in the business including the Regency Champion Touch Tackle, runner-up Millwards Teddy, 4th Swansalona Diva and 6th Tybar Hondo. It's got all the ingredients of being a competition not to be missed!
