The Coral Sussex Cup - Hove 515m (£10,000)

Hit The Lid, Phantom Flash, Toms The Best and Barnfield On Air are just four of the sensational previous winners of this wonderful competition. One thing that's guaranteed is not only the superb winners cheque of £10,000 but the champion will be following in very illustrious footsteps. At 21.08 on Thursday six greyhounds will go traps but 29.50 seconds later one greyhound will cross the line in front to a hero’s welcome, but who will that be?

T1 Burgess Oscar

T2 King Dec

T3 My Real Muttley

T4 Ballymac Mossjoe

T5 Jet Stream Jack (m)

T6 Reel Shirty (w).

The race to the corner is going to prove vital, all six finalists are blessed with fantastic early and something must give.

Could the Sussex Cup be heading North? Burgess Oscar is representing Lancashire based trainer Pat Rosney. He was very impressive in his semi-final victory and looks to be a real talent. Ballymac Mossjoe is representing Barrie Draper based in Yorkshire and likewise was very impressive in taking his semi-final.

With fifteen winners since 1972 being based at Hove the locals will be hoping win number sixteen can be delivered by Maria Collins and My Real Mutley. He's winning a lot of fans with his style of running, those fans will be hoping he can blast out and bravely hold off the pack close home. I caught up with a very excited Maria Collins ahead of the final to get the lowdown on My Real Mutley.

Maria Collins On My Real Mutley

“I can't believe he's in the final, I'm delighted, I really am. When he was a pup he cramped over the 515m so we went sprinting and shorter four-bend trips with him. There was not a lot about so I asked the owner if he fancied having a go. It was something we gave a lot of thought to and he was by no means a certainty to run in it. This race is second only to the Derby for me, I'd love to win this major race on my home track. If he's to win it he needs to fly out and hold them off close home. He can't come from behind these dogs we have one chance and one chance only; we need to be in front. I'd like to thank Coral for their brilliant sponsorship and everyone connected to Hove, it's a brilliant track and a great place to work”.

Jet Stream Jack was brilliant in his heat win and if he leads then he is more than capable of winning. He was perhaps guilty of being inconsistent at the boxes in the past but of late he's fast becoming a model of consistency. Kevin Hutton deserves huge credit for his handling of this dog. He's most certainly on the rise and looks a greyhound to follow this year.

Reel Shirty is an emerging star, I caught up with Mark Wallis the morning after his semi-final victory. Check out what he said here

Last but by no means least King Dec is no stranger to big race success having an Arc victory on his CV.

The 2015 Sussex Cup has got all the ingredients of being a sensational race. It's live on Sky Sports 21.08 on Thursday. Who do you think will be on the podium collecting this famous trophy?
