The Television Trophy - Towcester 906m (£8,000)

Droopys Cottage has been a sensation since stepping up to eight-bends and she confirmed that promise by setting new figures for the 906m course in heat-three. This was a really special performance from the Dean Childs trained star who trapped out brilliantly and posted a mind boggling sectional of 28.08. It was Droopys Cottage versus the clock and Droopys Cottage emerged victorious stopping it in a new track-record of 55.17. Ribble Atom stayed +on brilliantly to go down 3.25L and looks to have the potential to be a future star. The Mark Wallis trained Atom is only a July 2013 whelp which is very young for a top marathon star.

Liam Dowling sent out Ballymac Bonnie to victory in the first heat posting a 28.52 sectional and beating Alma Prince a whopping 7.5L in 55.29. Dorando star and Hove track-record holder Roxholme Magic was desperate in third, she was baulked at the opening bend but got herself in a position she was capable of qualifying from but a bump at the eighth-bend put pay to her chance. There's no doubt Roxholme Magic will be back but this was not to be her night.

Bubbly Time and Droopys Tamera served up a cracker in heat-two. Both showed good early pace but it was Droopys Tamera who turned in front, there was about 1L between them after the first circuit. It was in the balance but Bubbly Time stayed on better and hit the front around the seventh-bend and went on to win by 2.5L in 55.34.

I caught up with Champion Trainer Mark Wallis to ask him about his young marathon star Ribble Atom.

Mark Wallis on Ribble Atom

“I was delighted she qualified and the way in which she stayed on was very encouraging. It's great to be in the final and I'm hopeful of a big run. She is very young and looks to have a lot of potential because traditionally these eight-bend performers don't hit their peak till they are two and half or three years of age. Towcester is the future of greyhound racing and it's going to be a great occasion for the final with the Sky Sports cameras arriving”.
