Ladbrokes Gold Cup - Monmore 480m (£10,000)

The 2015 Ladbrokes Gold Cup starts on Friday and it's attracted a sensational entry. Swift Hoffman is no doubt the star attraction, he's did little to dampen his supporters spirits when he flew in a trial recording a sensational 27.85. The awesome Scottish Derby and Select Stakes Champion is the greyhound they've all to beat but this entry looks to have massive strength and depth. Including his kennel companions; Burgess Oscar, Vatican Gurkha and Farran Heaslip, all of which have impressive form in the bank and connections will be filled with hope.

Steve Race sends out La Cuchilla who won the Spring Festival Dogs over course and distance. He's joined by kennel companions La Maqina and Ballymac Bobbyjo, the latter being a finalist in the 2014 Monmore Puppy Derby.

Talking of that final, the winner Farloe Nutter is entered and makes the journey down from Scotland along with Dolcino Rose to give George Power two chances.

Julie Bateson won this competition in 2009 with Barbies Man and the Lancashire based trainer is back trying to land this great race once more with Ring Ben, Global Way and Turning Tables. Global Way finished 4th in this competition last year and Julie will be hoping he can go all the way this year.

Kevin Hutton is having a huge year and he's got Ibiza Rocks and El Lema running for him and both must be respected.

My Real Mutley finished 6th last year but he looks to be a better greyhound this year. He's a greyhound that could once more go very well in this year's competition.

Elaine Parker has two runners and I thought I'd catch up with Elaine to get the low-down on her runners.

Elaine Parker on Coolavanny Rebel and Russanda Brax

“We have had success at Monmore but we are yet to win the Gold Cup. We have two nice entries in Coolavanny Rebel and Russanda Brax. Their trial was very encouraging and both are open to further improvement. This 480m course is ideal for Coolavanny Rebel and he's been running well at Sheffield. He likes Monmore and won the Summer Festival Puppies here beating some good dogs. This was a natural target for him and he should go well.”

“If your going with one in the van it makes sense to take at least another. Russanda Brax ran really well in his trial. He finished runner-up in the Three Steps To Victory at Sheffield. He's a lovely dog and you would not mind a kennel full of dogs like Brax. We bred him and it's a great feeling to see them progress like he's done. He can do it from the front or behind and he should give a very good account of himself.”

“There's some big names entered and it won't be easy to win it but you never know. We've two good dogs entered and we will head to the first-round full of hope”.
