Romford Puppy Cup - Romford 400m (£10,000)

Droopys Brindle made history when she crossed the line in front to win the £10,000 to-the-winner Romford Puppy Cup, she became the first bitch to do so since 1981. This is an incredible achievement and one that is worthy of huge recognition. Paul Young has tasted Puppy Cup success before having won it in 2001 with 50/1 shot Droopys Survivor but this second title will live long in the memory of this super talented trainer.

Hares running, lids spring open and My Little Dream is flying up the outside with Toot Hill Wizard doing likewise down the middle, My Little Dream is just ahead and tries to sweep the opening bend but fails and it's Toot Hill Wizard who leads. Roxholme Scolari and Droopys Brindle have bumpy rides to the corner and it is going to take something special from there to win it. My Little Dream is throwing down the challenge to Toot Hill Wizard and looks to pass at the third-bend but tries to pass up his inside and both do themselves no favours with bumping. The race is wide open and it's Droopys Brindle who is flying and the bitch hits the front in between bends three and four. Willy Whitesocks is also starting to fly and My Little Dream recovers from her third-bend trouble but Droopys Brindle did not need asking twice she seized her big chance and was starting to pull away from her rivals. Droopys Brindle crossed the line 3.75L in front over Willy Whitesocks who denied My Little Dream by a Short-Head for second in 24.42.

This may not have been the fastest ever winning time of this illustrious competition but it was most certainly one of the most exciting. Droopys Brindle is a super talent and will no doubt be a major force in bitches’ competitions but on this evidence she will be a big player in any competition. It's a long time off, but bitches don't win the Derby do they? They used to say that about the Puppy Cup!

This competition has been thrilling. Roxholme Scolari never shined from trap-one in the final but don't let that put you off because moving forward he looks set to be a star. His litter-brother crashed out in the semi-finals Roxholme Barkley along with Droopys Story but both of these super talented youngsters will be back and chasing major honours for sure. Add them to the brilliant my kennel feature on the homepage and get e-mail notifications when they are running so you can follow their careers! http://www.gbgb.org.uk

Jack Murrell (Assistant to Paul Young) on Droopys Brindle

"She got it all wrong at the boxes and it got messy at the first and third bends but she stuck to the rail and took her chance really well. She was not stopping and powered on to the drop going further and further clear. We would have loved her to ping and lead all the way but once you get to these major races it's just about winning them, it's the ultimate. Paul Young is one of the best and he places greyhounds brilliantly. It's sensational to win this with a bitch because generally they don't win these big puppy competitions. Of course there is exceptions like our own Bubbly Beauty who won the RFS Puppy Derby and now Droopys Brindle winning the Puppy Cup.

We have not tried her over further yet but on this evidence I don't see it being a problem. Paul will sit down and make a decision but I'd think the Oaks will be her main target. She will just have turned two and realistically if she stays sound then she could have a couple of cracks at the Oaks. Droopys Brindle is fast, genuine and always gives you 100% that is a great combination. I think the future is very bright for this talented bitch".
