William Hill St Leger - Wimbledon 687M - £25,000

Defending champion Fizzypop Buddy showed he is not going to give up his crown without a fight when storming to a seven length victory in the first semi-final of the William Hill St Leger at Wimbledon last night. Smartly away, June Harvey’s dog was a length ahead of the field going into the first bend and then just kept on applying pressure and pulling further away. There was a three way tussle in behind with the favourite, Irish raider Jaytee Patriot, coming off worse, being bumped at the second and third bends enabling Rubys Rascal to land second spot with Billys Bullet qualifying for Tuesday’s final in third.

Charlie Lister’s Cloran Paddy maintained his unbeaten record over six bends in the second semi-final, but had to work hard for it. Huarache Maddison led to the first bend with Slick Sebastian behind. Cloran Paddy was on the inside and had to bide his time but as the field came off the second bend a gap emerged and he moved up into second. He took the third and fourth bends on the shoulder of Huarache Maddison and was able to pass him down the back straight and stay on for a gutsy victory. Huarache Maddison held second place with Ferryforth Fran getting up to pip Slick Sebastian for the third qualifying spot.
