RPGTV Oaks - Belle Vue 470M - £10,000

The RPGTV Oaks second round – Thursday, December 1 2016

Heat One

Mustang Chick took her current unbeaten run to three with a slick front-running effort from trap four. Surprisingly, given her current form, Carol Weatherall’s bitch was allowed to start at 5-1, and she rewarded those with enough faith to take those odds when scoring by a shade under four lengths from stayer Huarache Madison in 27.55sec (normal).

Heat Two

Defending champion Domino Storm started at prohibitive odds but never looked in any danger when defeating Barnagrane Glen by four and a half lengths in 27.56sec (normal). This was a signature front-running performance from Mark Wallis’ bitch who is due to retire after this competition. Barnagrane Glen ran well but was unable to match the winner’s searing pace.

Heat Three

Connections will have been greatly encouraged by Forest Twilight’s front-running effort. It was a second straight win from a bitch that has been dogged by injury and gives rise to the hope that there are better days to come for this talented daughter of Ace Hi Rumble. The winning time was 27.67sec (normal). Cream Of The Crop ran a big race after a slow start to take the remaining qualifying position, three and a quarter lengths behind the winner.

Heat Four

Ballymac Deirdre caught the eye with a powerful effort. The Barrie Draper-trained runner tracked cleverly to take the lead from Ballymac Galtee just before halfway and she stayed on strongly to defeat the talented Greenhill Gem by a length and a quarter in 27.67sec (normal). It meant the first defeat in five starts for Greenhill Gem, who passed the back-tracking Ballymac Galtee to move into second along the far side.

Heat Five

Droopys Two is capable of some high-class performances, as she showed during the Lowther Stakes at Towcester in the summer. Dean Childs’ bitch has had something of a barren spell lately but she returned to winning form with a sizzling fast-finishing effort. Droopys Two came from way off the pace to defeat Bubbly Madeva. The first and second stayed on well to relegate front-runner Glenhill Di into third. The winner clocked 27.90sec (normal) and scored by a length and a quarter.

Heat Six

Mashmad Eyebrows set the pace after a good start but had no answer when Steely Charm and Ballymac Shirley came through in the latter stages to play out the finish. In the end, the locally-trained Steely Charm took her recent record to six wins from her last ten starts when staying on to defeat Ballymac Shirley by a length and three quarters in 27.80sec (normal).

The RPGTV Oaks semi-finals – Thursday, December 8 2016

THE big two clash in the first semi-final of the RPGTV Oaks at Belle Vue on Thursday and it should be a cracker,

Defending champion Domino Storm and the resurgent Forest Twilight go head-to-head in easily the most competitive of the two semi-finals of the £10,000-to-the-winner category One competition.

Both have reached this stage courtesy of two sizzling front-running efforts and meet in a race that also includes in its line-up Ballymac Deirdre and Steely Charm, both impressive winners last Thursday.

Add to the mix, Ballymac Shirley, a kennel companion of the Mark Wallis-trained Domino Storm, and Cream Ofthe Crop and we have what ought to develop into a real high-grade contest.

Mustang Chick and Droopys Two were both winners during Thursday’s second round and they should be thereabouts at the business end of the second semi-final

Greenhill Gem, trained, like Mustang Chick, by Carol Weatherall, is another that should be considered as a possible winner. So too the progressive Mashmad Eyebrows. St Leger finalist Huarache Madison is clearly a most versatile type who shouldn’t be dismissed lightly, while Barnagrane Glen has an exquisite turn of pace when allowed to use it.
