Ladbrokes Gold Collar - Crayford 540m - £8,000

BUBBLY MCCOY heads into Tuesday’s Ladbrokes Gold Collar Final at Crayford as the fastest semi-final winner after a runaway win in the second qualifier at the Kent venue on Thursday.

Trained by Paul Young for The Champagne Club, the June 2015 son of Droopys Cain and Millroad Mac was crowded when making a challenge just before the halfway point but powered through to win by five-and-a-half lengths from defending champion Yahoo Victor in 33.40sec for the 540m trip.

“It was a cracking run, and we’re just delighted to be in another major final at Crayford,” said Steve Fluin, chairman of the ‘Bubbly Club’. “We’ve been trying to win one there for 20 years, and the 100 members with shares in McCoy will be hoping he’s the real McCoy on Tuesday!

“He’s a very nice dog, and was bought by the club from one of our members Jim Hughes. He’d won a competition at Tralee and was offered to us, and we were delighted to accept. Jim has retained an interest too, and he was at the airport watching the semis before taking off on holiday.

“His holiday started well, although rumours are he might have delayed the plane somewhat! He’ll be watching on Tuesday and we’ll have plenty of support for McCoy at Crayford. The draw is decent enough and we’re hopeful. Bluebird and Turbo made the final at Yarmouth, now Mccoy at Crayford. We're getting there!”

Mayshighlandreel (pictured above), owned by the Mccade Hire Ltd syndicate, was another Romford winner in the Gold Collar semis as Martyn Wiley’s in-form bitch again showed terrific early pace before getting clear off the second bend to also win by five lengths-plus from Shaneboy Bowie in 33.46sec

Fellow heat winner Oakfield Caesar, trained by John Mullins for Lee Calcutt and Chris Waters, also doubled up in the semis, but in contrasting style to his pillar-to-post heat win as he overcame crowding before halfway to catch pacesetting local Jacks Magic by a half a length in 34.19sec. He lines up in another major final have made two Sussex Cup deciders and run-up in an Essex Vase.

Danny Rayment, Crayford’s racing manager, said: “It should be another great Ladbrokes Gold Collar Final night here. We’ve got the finals of the Guys & Dolls and Kent Cesarewich here also, and the Sky Sports cameras. Entries for the supporting races have been strong and we’re all looking forward to it.

“Of course, we have a Guys & Dolls semi-final to re-run before racing on Saturday night. That will be the final piece of the jigsaw, and it’s great to see the locals well represented across the card - not least with Barry O’Sullivan and Karl Brazier’s Yahoo Victor defending his Gold Collar title.”
