DERBY champion Dorotas Wildcat and four-time Category One winner King Turbo are joined by All England Cup hero Droopys Verve in what looks a crackerjack race to be Standard Distance Performer of the Year after the list of nominations for the GBGB Awards were confirmed by the Greyhound Writers’ Association.

Voting for the various categories, the winners of which will be announced at the Greyhound of the Year gala in London on Sunday, January 27, closed at the end of 2018 to allow for the Olympic and National Sprint titles to be included - and both Hove winner King Turbo and Nottingham champ Calzaghe Flash feature in their respective fields.

In the Sprinter of the Year reckoning Calzaghe Flash is joined by Derby Sprint winner Affane Party and Crayford Guys & Dolls champion Kilmore Lemon, while Calzaghe Flash also gets a Newcomer of the Year nomination alongside Monmore Puppy Derby winner Rising Brandy and the versatile Slippy Maggie.

Indeed, Slippy Maggie is nominated three times - for Bitch of the Year, Marathon Performer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Winner of Crayford’s Boxing Day Marathon, Slippy Maggie is joined in the eight-bend category by TV Trophy champion Savana Winner and Shotgun Bullet, winner of the Golden Jacket at Crayford and Romford’s Coronation Cup, while her nomination in the Bitch category stands alongside Lowther Stakes winner Donation and Oaks heroine Ravenswood Flo.

There is a strong line-up for the Stayer of the Year vote which sees Sunderland Grand Prix and Romford Champion Stakes winner Bombers Bullet clash with St Leger champion Calico Ranger and Yorkshire St Leger heroine Roxholme Poppy, while last year’s winner Razldazl Raidio is back amongst the nominations for Hurdler of the Year.

The prolific-scoring performer is joined by Springbok and Champion Hurdle winner Lenson Wilson and Grand National champion Parkers Dynamite, while the British Bred nominations see British Bred Derby winner Geelo Monty joined by kennelmates King Elvis and King Turbo.

The winners will be presented with their awards at the GBGB Awards 2018 which will be held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Sunday, January 27, 2019.
