The GBGB wishes to recruit a team of Regulatory Veterinary Surgeons to cover five geographical regions: the North (including Scotland), the Southeast (including London), the Southwest/West Midlands, the East Midlands/East Anglia, the Northwest/Northeast.   

The Regional Regulatory Veterinary Surgeons will report to the Veterinary Executive. Their functions will include: 

  • Upholding the GBGB’s Rules of Racing in matters relating directly and indirectly to greyhound welfare.  
  • Acting as a point of reference and support for Track Veterinary Surgeons in respect of their regulatory functions. 
  • Working closely with and supporting the field staff of Stipendiary Stewards, both at tracks and at trainers’ residential kennels. 
  • Conducting annual veterinary kennel inspections at trainers’ residential kennels.  

Candidates will be Members or Fellows of the RCVS.  You must have broad clinical skills and a minimum of two years’ experience working in veterinary practice.  A post graduate qualification in animal welfare or other relevant discipline would be desirable. Experience of working in animal sports or with an animal welfare charity would also be desirable.  

The position will involve travel and independent working and therefore candidates must be able to work unsupervised and hold a clean and valid driving licence. Candidates must also be prepared to work flexibly and outside of usual working hours when required to do so. 

This is a full time, non-clinical position and will be field based.
