Open Race Categories

Greyhound Derby: 

 

The English Greyhound Derby takes place over within 5 consecutive weeks (as per the GBGB open race planning guidelines) and will be held at Towcester for five years from 2017. The final will be worth £175,000 to the winner. The 2016 Derby was won by Jaytee Jet at Wimbledon.                           

                                                                 

Category 1  Race: 

 

Carries minimum added money of £12,500. Run with 1, 2, 3 or 4 rounds within the following timeframes:

 

-       2 rounds within 9 consecutive days.

-       3 rounds within 15 consecutive days

-       4 rounds within 17 consecutive days

 

Unless extended, in respect of number of days, with the permission of the GBGB Chief Executive.

 

A Category 1 race may also use a third calendar week if the distance of the race is 600 metres or further, but in any event must be completed within 18 days.

 

                                                              

Penalty Clause

 

Racecourses may lose their right to claim their preferred dates under the ORCP guidelines if they fail to submit their Category 1 races by the appointed deadline.

 

 

Category 2  Race:  

 

Carries minimum added money of £5,000 and maximum added money of £12,499.  Run with 1, 2 or 3 rounds, within the following timeframes:

 

-       2 rounds within 9 consecutive days.

-       3 rounds within 15 consecutive days.

 

 

 

Category 3  Race:

 

Carries minimum added money of £1,000 and maximum added money of £4,999.  With 1 or 2 rounds over a maximum of nine calendar days. A Category 3 race which is staged over one day only, must carry minimum win money of £500.

 

Invitation Races:

 

A separate category of   open races, proposed to the   GBGB by a promoter after the normal Calendar procedure deadline.  Minimum added money £750 of which £500 must go to the winner with all runners receiving a minimum of £50 appearance money.

 

Match Race:  

 

A Match shall be a Race (other than that resulting from Rule 90) between two Greyhounds in the charge of different licensed Trainers, unless previously approved otherwise by the GBGB, and the property of different Owners, on terms agreed by the latter. A Match and its terms shall require the approval of the GBGB before its inclusion in a programme. £500 is the minimum prize for any match race.       

 

Minor Open  Race:

 

Any other open race (not previously mentioned in this document) run on 1 day.  Minimum added money £250 of which £150 is to be paid to the winner and at least £20 will go to each runner.      

 

Heats of Category One, Two & Three Races:  

 

All Winners in the heats of Category One, Two and Three races will receive a minimum of £150, and each runner a minimum of £20.
