Matings and Litter Registration Service
GBGB’s Matings and Litter Service provides breeders of British-bred litters of greyhounds – pups born and earmarked in Great Britain – with the option to register all matings and litters directly with the GBGB.
The new service, which was launched in June 2026, aims to streamline the process of registering British-bred litters and getting puppies ready to race.
As part of this, GBGB’s Registration Department oversees a British Breeding Register for both stud dogs and brood bitches. Owners of greyhounds intended for breeding are to join the Register, with all subsequent matings reported to the GBGB.
You can read more about the service here.
How it works
All registration processes previously handled solely by the Greyhound Stud Book can now also be processed via the GBGB. This includes registering brood bitches and stud dogs, matings and litters. Breeders can still register with the Stud Book if they prefer.
Individuals using the GBGB’s Matings and Litter Service must comply with GBGB’s new Matings and Litter Registration Policy (see below). This Policy underpins the service and ensures the required welfare standards and legislation are met for all greyhounds involved in breeding.
Owners of puppies registered with GBGB from birth will also benefit from a simplified process for naming and registering their greyhounds to race.
The ‘Guide for Breeders’ below provides further information. All relevant forms can be requested directly from the GBGB.
If you have any additional questions or wish to apply for your greyhound to join GBGB’s British-bred Register, please contact litters@gbgb.org.uk or call 0207 822 0900 (option 4).
| Fee Structure | |
|---|---|
| British Breeding Register – Stud Dog/ Brood Bitch Application | £25 for stud dogs, payable per annum on renewal. No fee for brood bitches (one-off application). Stud dogs currently registered with the ICC and intended to sire British-bred litters can apply to join GBGB’s British Breeding Register (full GBGB registration to race will not be required). |
| Registering a mating | Free of charge when reported within the required 14 days (£100 for late submissions). |
| Register a litter of British-bred puppies | £60 per litter; includes supply of microchips for implementation by nominated vet/implanter, plus earmarking by a GBGB Earmarking Steward. |
| Naming of individual pups and ownership registration / GBGB registration to race | £66 fee per British-bred greyhound administrated via GBGB’s Litter Registration Service. Only the GRS bond remains payable before the greyhound can race. |
| Greyhound Retirement Scheme (GRS) bond payment | £110 Greyhound Retirement Scheme (GRS) bond payable before a greyhound can race. GBGB continues to offer a £100 GRS dispensation for all British-bred greyhounds, meaning GBGB contributes £310 per greyhound, instead of the £210 equal owner/GBGB contribution applied to Irish-bred greyhounds. |
| New syndicate registration | £30 |
