BO SHINE BULLET will line up as favourite to lift Saturday’s £17,500 Ladbrokes Golden Jacket Final at Crayford after setting the fastest time in the semis at the weekend.

In winning again impressively, Mark Wallis’s bitch maintained an unbeaten start to her UK career with a fourth straight victory – all at Crayford – and the January 2019 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Fear Emoksi produced her best-yet in the first semi.

Quickly away on her way to a fast 23.19sec split, the Bruiser Boyz-owned runner was always dominating matters and came home six lengths clear of Sweet Leaf (Emma Richards) in 45.00sec (+30) for the 714m.

The second semi-final witnessed a turn-up as market rivals Salacres Pippy and Clever Airmount failed to make the frame as the Dan Brabon-trained Ragtime Storm made all.

The Central Park raider was well away (23.21sec sectional) and was never headed as she crossed the line just over three lengths clear of the Stuart Maplesden-trained Punk Rock Mutley in 45.38sec (+30), with Salacres Pippy just a half-length back but in third.

The third semi-final produced the most exciting finish of the night as another late surge from the Tony Gifkins-trained Redzer Renae saw the local bitch edge Anhid News (Mark Wallis) in the shadow of the post for a short-head success in 45.48sec (+30).

The victory delighted the trainer’s son, assistant and owner of the daughter of the March 2019 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Redzer Ruby, the TV Trophy runner-up.

Lee Gifkins said: “That was great to see, because she had quite a rough ride last week. She took a bump and I actually think she might have winded herself because it took her a while to pick up before staying on to qualify.

“She didn’t get the clearest of runs in the semis but the finish was really there once she saw daylight. We know that 714m is short for her, but don’t forget she won the local track championship here over the trip, so she’s got plenty of speed.

“We’re happy with out things have worked out in the draw but it’s not going to be easy to catch Bo Shine Bullet, if that’s what she might have to do. But if she gets a decent run this bitch can do great things and we think the world of her.

“She’s still a pup, remember, but is as good as a staying bitch as we’ve had. The Golden Jacket has always been a favourite of ours – we finished second in 2015 with Bubbly Time, so it would be nice to go one better, but you always need that luck.”

Danny Rayment, Crayford racing manager, was delighted with the quality of the racing on Saturday night – after the decision was taken to switch the open races to the evening fixture from the traditional morning slot because of the weather.

“It was the right decision and we had some excellent racing for RPGTV viewers to enjoy,” he said. “I thought in the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket semi-finals Mark Wallis’s favourite Bo Shine Bullet was again really impressive.

“She reminds me so much of Patchys Kerry who won the Jacket a few back for the same kennel, coming into her Jacket fancied after switching from Ireland but stepping up in trip into the unknown. She seems to be improving with each run and will be difficult to beat.

“Well done to Dan Brabon and Ragtime Storm for winning his semi-final – he showed plenty of speed to make all – while the last semi final was probably the most eventful and certainly the closest finish, going to the Gifkins’ Redzer Renae – but only just.

“Anhid News ran a great race to give the Wallis team two finalists, but Redzer Renae doesn’t know when she’s beaten and got up on the line.

“We’re all set for another great Ladbrokes Golden Jacket Final. Bo Shine Bullet will be favourite, of course, but you can never rule out anything in a final. Well done also to Stuart Maplesden (Punk Rock Mutley) and Emma Richards (Sweet Leaf) for making the final.

“As ever the supporting card will be full of quality headed by the Peter Bussey Memorial Trophy, but we’ve also a superb new event The Welcome To Hope Jeal Final over 380m and I’m delighted how well the Chief Ramsbottom Hurdle has gone.

“It’s been a one-off race in recent years, but has got competition status once again and we’ve made it a dual distance.

“The race is named after a graded hurdler at Crayford trained by Paul Tompsett who had over 200 races at the track – all over the jumps! It’s been a regular supporting race for the Golden Jacket for over 20 years.

“The supporting close at noon on Tuesday (February 16) and once again we’ve a maxi marathon over 1048m – worth £1,048 to the winner. This has also become a regular event and is usually the only race in the GBGB Calendar over such a trip.

“All in all it looks another fantastic morning’s racing for everyone to enjoy on RPGTV, SIS – and for those of us lucky enough to be working at the track!”
