FABULOUS DYNA landed a third victory in the event in a row for trainer Laurence Tuffin and owner and breeder Dave Firmager when successfully defending her BGBF British Bred St Leger title at Doncaster.

On a night the South Yorkshire track also staged the 2024 Yorkshire Derby Final for a Category Two double-header, it was the January 2022 daughter of Superman and Buckos Lass who justified favouritism to match Droopys Clue’s back-to-back St Leger titles achieved the same night and follow Romeo Riot’s 2022 success for Tuffin and Firmager.

The owner-trainer combination landed a one-two then with Romeo Trooper chasing home Romeo Riot – and Firmager completed a one-two in the 2024 running given the staying-on Fabulous Tempo ( Newinn Taylor-Fabulous Mila, May 22), a bitch he bred, finished second for Nottingham trainer Jason Gray and owners the Wheeler family.

However, it was Fabulous Dyna’s night once again and a strong-running effort in the £3,000 decider saw her reel in long-time leader Acomb Jasper (Kevin Ferguson) down the far side second time before the 4-9 favourite raced away for a three-and-three-quarter lengths success over Fabulous Tempo in 41.49sec (+15).

For Liz Mort, chair of the British Greyhound Breeders Forum, Saturday proved a mixed night after being taken ill before the British Bred St Leger Final.

“Unfortunately I missed the final and spent a few days in hospital, so I have plenty of catching up to do!,” she said. “However, from what I hear it was another fabulous  performance from Fabulous Dyna and I must congratulate Laurence (Tuffin) and David and Nicola again for their wonderful achievement.

“Dyna winning back-to-back British Bred St Legers is special but for the Firmagers to have bred and owned three in a row now is brilliant,” added Mort.

“We were slightly concerned going head to head with the main St Leger but I’m not sure it had as much as an impact as we feared – the British-breds stayed at Doncaster and made for probably the track’s biggest meeting for some time with the Yorkshire Derby being run on the same night.

“Incidentally, it was also great to hear that a British-bred won by the Yorkshire Derby in the shape of Tom’s (Heilbron) Greenwell Coe.

“Thank-you to all the owners and trainers who supported our BGBF British Bred St Leger and thank-you again to Doncaster and to SIS for their support.”
