JAGUAR MACIE underlined her tremendous talent once again by landing Tuesday’s final of the Arena Racing Company Northern Flat at Newcastle, the latest GBGB Category One event at the Byker venue.

In securing another title to add to an impressive CV for the April 2019 daughter of Droopys Jet and Droopys Breeze, the Graham Rankin-trained, Tony Armstrong-owned posted the fastest time of the competition (28.27sec -10) as she saved the best for last in the £10,000-to-the-winner final over 480m.

Pacing up well behind fast-starting Potent Touch (Angela Harrison) and taking advantage as Bellmore Pepper (Jimmy Fenwick) stumbled on exiting the traps, Jaguar Macie was soon in position against the rail and used the inside line to best effect to hold off the challenge of the now in full flow Mickys Barrett (Jason Gray).

Hitting the front off the second bend, Jaguar Macie was away and on her way to a three-and-a-quarter length success over Mickys Barrett in second, with Droopys Biggy (Angela Harrison) staying on well to claim third place.

Victory added the Arc Northern Flat title to those already won last year in the Northern Puppy Derby and Angel Of The North, both over the same C&D at Newcastle, plus the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby at Monmore.

Injury sustained during the Oaks later curtailed her season and Jaguar Macie was off the track for almost three months, but returned to finish second to Burnchurch Mick in the Ladbrokes Winter Derby at Monmore in February.

Winning trainer Rankin said: “It’s great to win another Cat One, of course, but I’m just delighted that she’s produced possibly the best run of her career when you look at the time. I always felt once she came back she could be even better and stronger, but it’s still been a long road back in many ways.

“We’ve got a few options for her and that includes possibly stepping her up in trip down the line. Everything depends on when she falls in season.”

Newcastle general manager Ian Walton said: “It was a brilliant performance from Jaguar Macie. She’s a real star and hopefully can go on to have another fantastic year.

“We’ve been delighted with the two Category One comps we’ve held so far in 2022 which has seen two cracking winners in Freedom Alibi for Tom Heilbron and Jaguar Macie for Graham Rankin, but I’m sure there are plenty of greyhounds to follow for the rest of the year who took part in these events.

“The All England Cup is here at Newcastle in December and, with a new £20,000 first prize, is sure to be a cracker. Hopefully we’ll see a lot of the greyhounds who took part in the comps we’ve staged so far this year back to have a crack at the All England later in the year!”
