QUEEN ADELE created a slice of history when breaking the track record for the third time in the final of the Bedfordshire Mini

Derby, a Category Two decider, at Henlow on Sunday.

Trained by Perry Barr’s John Lambe for owners Paul Oliver and Steve Pomroy, Queen Adele underlined her outright claims in the three-run competition over 428m in the heats when lowering Saffrons Anna’s track record to 25.33sec.

Following up in the semis, Queen Adele went event quicker when winning in 25.26sec, before setting new figures for the third time in the £2,000 final as she was again quickly away and made all to lead home Carol Grasso’s game local Stringer Bell in 25.15sec.

Naturally Lambe was delighted with the performances throughout the competition which has stretched Queen Adele’s unbeaten record to six since she joined the Sutton Coldfield handler a month before the Derby.

“We actually entered her in the Derby before pulling her out,” he said. “She was just out of season and has so much speed, and we thought we’d keep her to shorter trips. She won for us at Doncaster twice, then a Hove sprint, and now three at Henlow.

“I gave her a big chance in the final and was probably the least nervous I’ve even been ahead of a race,” Lambe added. “We felt she’d solo the bend as drawn, and that’s how it panned out, and to break her own track record again makes her a really top sort.”

Lambe will now target the William Hill Classic at Sunderland for the two-year-old, and she will trial at the north-east venue along with, among others from their Sutton Coldfield base, kennelmate Ballydoyle Maura who is stepping up in trip for the Grand Prix.

“She’s not the greatest of trappers but has matured now and we’ll give her a go over 640m at Sunderland. We’ve also others heading for the Classic and we’ve got a nice pup for the Puppy Plate, so hopefully we’ll be busy over the next few weeks!”

Lambe reports another kennel star Affane Party to be in good form and being readied for a crack at the Bar One Sprint at Dundalk. “We plan to take him to Dundalk for a sprint race supporting the International, then be back there with him for the big sprint,” he added.

Back to Queen Adele and Lambe says the intention when her racing days are over will be to breed with her. “I think that’s what Paul and Steve have in mind, and that’s exciting,” he continued. “She’s from that brilliant litter of Skate On’s – she’s some brood.”

Bred by Brendan Keogh and reared by Rab and Liz McNair, Queen Adele’s batch includes Greyhound of the Year King Elvis and Queen Anna who is, ironically, also a Henlow track record holder having broken the sprint record at the Bedfordshire track last year.
