Share Your Life With A Greyhound, the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s retired greyhound adoption campaign, has teamed up with Celebrity Big Brother’s Chris Hughes to continue its promotion of retired greyhounds as great pets.

Building on the success of last year’s ‘Adopt A Sporting Legend’ campaign with rugby star Joe Marler, after which the number of retired greyhounds entering homing placements increased by 25%, the newest campaign video is on the theme of ‘Anything But Grey’. Showcasing greyhounds’ colourful personalities, the video stars TV and Sports Presenter Chris Hughes as the voice of a much-loved pet greyhound enjoying a day in the life of his retirement. Whether at the park, the pub, or at home on the sofa, the video captures retired greyhounds’ sweet temperaments which make them the perfect family pet.

Greyhounds are calm, affectionate dogs who love nothing more than cuddling up with their owners on the sofa. Dubbed the ‘40mph couch potato’, these retired racers make the dream companion for any pet parent. They can sometimes sleep for up to 20 hours a day, and only require two 20-minute, on-lead daily walks. Most greyhounds only race until they are between the ages of three and five, so while ‘retired’ they are relatively young and have a long life ahead of them as companion animals.

On his involvement with the campaign, Chris Hughes said:

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to promote this wonderful breed of dogs who make such excellent pets. Having grown up around working dogs, I know first-hand how wonderful they are as pets once they stop working, and this is no different with greyhounds.

“I would strongly encourage anyone who is looking to adopt a dog to consider getting a greyhound. They are such gentle and fun dogs which can slot seamlessly into so many different lifestyles, especially as they don’t need too much walking, and their personalities are certainly Anything But Grey!”

The ‘Share Your Life With A Greyhound’ campaign offers a wealth of information to prospective adopters – including a list of approved homing centres across the country, and a wide range of information about the greyhound breed, their needs and how to best care for them.

Since its launch in late 2024, the ‘Share Your Life With A Greyhound’ campaign has been highly successful, with over 5,350 greyhounds placed with approved homing centres in 2025 compared with 4,238 in 2024 – a 25% increase in demand for the breed – and more than 37,000 prospective adopters visiting the campaign page to learn more about the breed. Having struggled with the post-Covid downturn in the number of people adopting a pet, homing centres across the country have seen the positive impact which the campaign has had over the past year, particularly following the ‘Adopt A Sporting Legend’ video.

Cress Lee, Share Your Life With A Greyhound’s Campaign Manager, said:

“We are delighted to have had this opportunity to work with Chris Hughes to further promote retired greyhounds as pets. He has really captured the quirky personalities which greyhounds have and how well they fit into so many different homes and families once they retire from racing. We have already seen the significant impact of our ‘Adopt A Sporting Legend’ campaign last year, and hope our ‘Anything But Grey’ video helps to spread the word even further about what wonderful, fun and loving pets retired greyhounds make.

“Anyone who is looking to adopt a dog should definitely consider reaching out to one of our fantastic homing centres to find out more about greyhounds. There truly is a perfect greyhound for every home and our centres are perfectly placed to help you find yours.”
