Changes to Trainers’ Annual Veterinary Kennel Inspection
All GBGB-licensed greyhound trainers are required to have an Annual Veterinary Kennel Inspection of their residential kennels.
Trainers currently organise and pay for these inspections, which are carried out by either a track veterinarian or a veterinarian from their local veterinary practice.
From 2025 onwards, GBGB Regional Regulatory Surgeons (RRVs) will conduct their trainers’ Annual Veterinary Kennel Inspection. These will be announced visits and will come at no cost to trainers. The RRV will contact their trainers to arrange a suitable time and date to visit.
The RRV Annual Veterinary Kennel Inspections will be valid for a rolling 12-month period from the date of the inspection visit. An in-date Veterinary Kennel Inspection is required for the Annual Independent Kennel Audit by SCI.
New inspection format
As well as being carried out by an RRV, these inspections will differ in format. The visiting RRV will inspect all greyhounds accommodated in the residential kennel to assess their overall condition and health, with a key focus on any retired greyhounds.
If the RRV identifies any issues that require remedial action, the trainer will be required to evidence to their RRV that these matters have been suitably addressed before their inspection is signed off.
All trainers have been sent an information sheet via email which provides further details about the new inspection process. If you have any additional questions, please contact your RRV.
