Dual Golden Jacket heroine Bellmore Sally simply brilliant in heats of Ladbrokes TV Trophy at Crayford
BELLMORE SALLY set out her stall for an incredible big-race treble at the Kent track when setting the fastest time in the heats of the Ladbrokes TV Trophy at Crayford on Saturday.
Already a winner of two Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket successes over 714m, Jimmy Fenwick’s now up-in-trip December 2019 daughter of Droopys Sydney and Bellmore Lucy broke quickly in heat three of the famous 874m annual and never saw another rival once hitting the bend in front.
Running the track in her customary impressive style, Bellmore Sally drew clear of her rivals and crossed the line six and a quarter lengths clear of the Diane Henry-trained Savana Queen on her way to stopping the clock in 56.25sec (+40) – the pair qualifying for Saturday’s £15,000-to-the-winner decider.
The event kicked off with Hove handler June Harvey’s Ower Smasher finishing fastest of all to win heat one, overcoming early crowding before powering through approaching the penultimate turn to race away for an impressive eight-length success over Tom Levers’ local star Beach Babe in 56.57sec (+40).
Of the winner, a March 2021 daughter of Droopys Biker and Droopys Smasher, Harvey’s son Matthew Redman said: “She’s taken to Crayford a lot better than we first thought, winning her first two looks at the track in impressive fashion, even though it wouldn’t have been a track I fancied would suit her, but she’s shown she can adapt.
“Smasher seems to be improving race by race at the moment – and long may that continue. Saturday was pleasing in so many ways but her determination and will to ride the trouble and get to the front was what stood out for me. She certainly wasn’t stopping either – and was just as quick into the pick-up!
“We’ve drawn trap three in the final and, although not ideal, we hope she can have a clear run and let’s just see how the race unfolds. The final has a great mix of dogs that want to get off the front and ones that will be winding up for a big finish, so it has the hallmarks to be a very exciting race.
“Best of luck to all six runners and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ladbrokes and Crayford for staging this historic race this year. The TV Trophy is one of the most famous races in the game and it’s great to have a shot at it.”
A Mystical Love also produced a barnstorming finish to win heat two as the Lee Pearce-trained Hove raider dropped herself out early before powering though as the leaders jostled for position off the last bend.
Weaving her way through superbly, the October 2020 daughter of Whitewood Lad and Dye Hard launched a winning challenge on the last lap to hit the front off the final turn before going on to score by two and a half lengths from long-time leader Queen Pink (Liz McNair) in 57.07sec (+40) for the 12-bend distance.
