FABULOUS DYNA landed back-to-back victories in the event for trainer Laurence Tuffin and owners and breeders David and Nicola Firmager with success in the BGBF British St Leger Final at Doncaster on Saturday
After a one-two for the same owner-trainer combination in the 661m GBGB Category Two competition 12 months ago courtesy of Romeo Riot and Romeo Trooper, it was the turn of Fabulous Dyna to keep the trophy where it was as the January 2022 daughter of Superman and Buckos Lass finished best to collar longtime leader Moments Of Magic.
Kevin Hutton’s runner, herself supremely bred as a daughter of the incredible Forest Natalee, set the early figures with a cracking burst of early pace and stretched her field out. However, as in the heats, Fabulous Dyna proved too strong as her stirring challenge after early crowding saw her swoop late for a head triumph in 42.16sec (normal).
BGBF chair Liz Mort said: “What a gutsy run from the youngest of the finalists to catch
longtime leader Moments Of Magic literally on the line for victory.
“Of course, she’s bred to go the distance. Her dam Buckos Lass won several opens at Monmore over 630m before becoming a star in the paddocks, too, having thrown the likes of Fabulous Bling, Romeo Hotshot and Romeo Mission amongst a January 2021 batch.
“Only a Jan 2022 bitch, Fabulous Dyna beat litter brother Romeo Havok to win a maiden stayers event over 712 at Towcester so has the potential to go further than the 661m of our British St Leger.
“Her sire is Superman, an Australian standard distance dog who was a son of Brett Lee.
“We’ve actually only ever registered two litters by Superman over here – both for David Firmager, who is known for seeking out sires who haven’t really impacted over here.
“Well done to Fabulous Dyna, her trainer Laurence Tuffin and, of course, to breeders and owners David and Nicola Firmager.
“Congratulations also to Moments of Magic and her connections. Favourite in the betting, the joint-oldest runner in the final led more or less the whole way and seemed to have seen off a couple of challenges from Fabulous Dyna before the younger bitch rallied and just got her head in front where it mattered most.
“Moments Of Magic has had a brilliant career, having won 17 open races, her first being in the final of the BGBF Puppy Cup Final at Towcester in October 2021. She is one of that great January 2020 Magical Bale-Forest Natalee litter, bred by Kevin Hutton and trained by him for the Westwell Racing Club.
“The battle between these two really great bitches took the eye away from the
rest of the field, given they finished well clear of the pack, but all six finalists put in great runs to get there in the first place.
“Bathams Dennis (Hiya Butt-Ballymac Cloud, May 21) came in third for trainer Kim Billingham and owners Alex McCarthy and Keith Parsons; fourth was Vicky Lea’s Some Chance (Ballymac Anton-Mrs Chippy, Sept 21), owned by Connor O’Reilly; fifth was Phil Milner’s home-bred Keefill Delphine (Skywalker Logan-Tarsna Atalanta, Mar 21) and sixth was Craig Williams’ Snooty Rose (Dorotas Wildcat-Snooty Mary, Jan 21).
“Our thanks to the team at Doncaster for hosting and running this key British-bred competition and to SIS, whose continuing support for British breeding is so very welcome and appreciated.”
