BULL RUN BUTTON has her sights on another major Sheffield prize when the local star lines up in the Gain Nutrition 3 Steps To Victory Final over 660m at the Owlerton venue on Tuesday.

The Barrie Draper-trained runner made a fast start to overcome a tough-looking middle draw in the second semi-final of the tri-distance event, thereafter making all to score over the 500m trip from Rocket John (Charles Lynch) in 28.83sec (-10).

The March 2016 daughter of Ballymac Eske and Tullowmac Java, winner of the Racing Post Juvenile at Sheffield last year, therefore has the chance of a notable double at the South Yorkshire venue – just as her famous sire achieved a few years back.

Rose Draper, daughter of the winning handler, said: “Ballymac Eske won both the Juvenile and 3 Steps for us. He broke the track record in the final in his first and only six-bend race, so hopefully ‘Bev’ (Bull Run Button) can do the same – perhaps without the time!

“She’s a real star of our kennel. Her form dipped somewhat last year, but we knew she’d come back and it’s great to be the final. Now she’s got a real test over 660m, although has won over 630m at Monmore – so we’re hopeful.

“Getting the rails for the final is a real boost,” added RPGTV analyst Draper. “That was our fear in the semis when coming out of four, but she broke well and could get across and once in front we know she’s so strong-running.

“It’s great to have a finalist. The day hadn’t started great for us having to withdraw Lostrigg Barney, and Lostrigg Freddy missed out, but Bev was superb and hopefully she can break well inside and give herself every chance. She’s a tough one to catch if she can to the front.”

The second semi-final went to the Kevin Hutton-trained Ballymac Diego as the two-year-old crossed the line ahead of John Sharp’s local hope Sharpys Pluto, the youngest finalist, in 28.90sec (-10). The winning margin was three-quarters of a length.

Winning trainer Hutton said: “We’re delighted to make a major final, especially with Diego who’s done really well to come back to some great form. He suffered a bad shoulder injury early in his career so he’s only just getting started really.

“We’re not convinced he’ll stay by any means, but we may as well find out with the chance to win a great prize!” smiled Hutton, adding: “It’s a fascinating competition that we always try to support and this is our first finalist in the event.

“Diego needs to fly the lids and lead otherwise it’s game over, but he’ll give it his best and you never know.”

Patrick Janssens ensured another big-race finalist was secured, given he is represented in finals at Crayford and Henlow over the weekend, when Seaglass Celine led early on her way to an all-the-way success over fast finishing Lemon Ronald (Jimmy Fenwick) in heat three.

The winner posted 28.91sec (-10), finishing a neck in front of Lemon Ronald, with local hope Russanda Ripley (Sean Parker) just edged out for a place in Tuesday’s £10,000-to-the-winner final.
