BULL RUN BUTTON landed her trainer Barrie Draper a third victory in the event in Tuesday’s Gain Nutrition 3 Steps To Victory Final at Sheffield – landing a hugely popular local success in the process.

A fast start paved the way for the red-boxed runner to grab gold in the £10,000-to-the-winner decider with Bull Run Button making all over the 660m distance, having qualified through heats and semi-finals over 480m and 500m.

“She loves the track, of course, and we were delighted with her in the semis given a tough trap four draw, but once Bev’s in front she’s a tough nut to crack,” said Rose Draper, daughter of trainer Barrie, after Bull Run Button’s 39.09sec success.

Her father also landed 3 Steps wins with Farloe Hack (2004) and Ballymac Eske (2014) and Bull Run Button, owned by the BAT Syndicate – Graham and Joan Bacon, Pete Moult and Rob Frith were at the presentation podium – is a daughter of Ballymac Eske.

“That was a great night us, especially when Eske broke the track record in what was his only six-bend race, but this win is right up there, too,” added Rose Draper. “She’s a popular bitch here and a real star and favourite at our kennels.”

The 2018 Racing Post Juvenile winner – at Sheffield – led home Sharpys Pluto (John Sharp) in Tuesday’s final to make it a one-two for locally-trained runners in the unique tri-distance Category One competition with Patrick Janssens’s Seaglass Celine back in third.

Connections of Bull Run Button are now considering a crack at the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic (630m) at Monmore, which starts on August 3. “It’s a trip she’s won over at Monmore already, so it seems the ideal route to go,” added Draper.

Sean Traynor, Gain Nutrition’s UK business manager, said he was delighted with the company’s latest sponsorship with the Owlerton venue – following on from their support of the Trainers’ Championship Meeting earlier this year.

“We have a good relationship with Dave Perry and the Sheffield management,” said Traynor. “It’s a real go-ahead track with plenty of developments and expansion in the pipeline with the new conference facility being built next door.

“As for the 3 Steps winner, it’s congratulations to our longstanding patrons the Draper team – they’ve been a great and successful kennel for so many years and their Bull Run Button ran a brilliant race in the final, proving herself so versatile over the different trips.

“Overall it was great to see this Category One being so well supported. It was so heavily oversubscribed reported the racing office they could have filled it twice. I think that shows the appeal and attraction of the 3 Steps format. It’s unique.

“We look forward to our association with the Sheffield track continuing. They have great enthusiasm for the sport and, with the investments ongoing, it’s a track going places.

“We’d also like to compliment the great work being done by the local retired greyhounds branch there. Their work is something very much close to the values we hold at Gain Dog Nutrition.”
