GBGB Announce Category One and Two Racing Schedule
The Greyhound Board of Great Britain and the Open Race Planning Committee has today published its open race calendar for 2026.
A schedule packed full of action to celebrate 100 years of our sport, 2026 will see 50 category one competitions and 27 category twos spread across a range of tracks, distances and categories including seven events solely for British Bred greyhounds.
Following on from their success last year, both the Arena Racing Company Scurry at Dunstall Park and Star Pelaw’s Untold Racing Stewards Cup have been upgraded from category two to category one competitions while Oxford welcome a number of new category two events to their track.
May and June see the Greyhound Derby take centre stage and once again the event boasts a jam-packed supporting card giving a range of owners and trainers their chance to take part in the greatest night our sport has to offer.
Following the pending closure of Swindon, the 80th BGBF Produce Stakes finds a new home at Towcester, allowing the best home grown talent the opportunity to test themselves over the Derby course and distance.
Once again the year will be rounded off with a trip to the North East where Newcastle will pay tribute to their former trainer Jimmy Wright with his Future Stars Puppy Trophy, which runs alongside the ARC All England Cup.
Speaking of the announcement, GBGB’s Racing Operation Executive Louise Warr said “2026 will be an exciting year for the sport of greyhound racing with a whole host of events taking place to celebrate 100 years both on and off the track and we wanted an open race schedule that reflects this.
“My thanks go to the Open Race Planning Committee, promoters, sponsors and tracks for their cooperation in putting together a comprehensive programme that perfectly showcases the diversity and talent that our sport has to offer. It looks to be a busy but thrilling year ahead.”
