The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has today released further details on the introduction of its new Mating and Registration Service for British-bred litters.

The service is designed to streamline the registration process for British-bred greyhound puppies (those whelped and earmarked in England, Scotland and Wales) by providing breeders with the option to register their matings and litters directly with GBGB.

From 22nd June 2026, GBGB’s Registry Department will oversee a new British Breeding Register for both stud dogs and brood bitches. Owners of greyhounds intended for breeding will be able to join the Register, with all subsequent matings reported to the GBGB.

All registration processes previously handled solely by the Greyhound Stud Book can now be processed via the GBGB. This includes registering brood bitches and stud dogs, matings and litters. Breeders can still register with the Stud Book if they prefer, and the GBGB will continue to process greyhound puppies as they have previously done.

Individuals using the GBGB’s Mating and Litter Service must comply with GBGB’s new Mating and Litter Registration Policy, which underpins the service and ensures the required welfare standards are met for all greyhounds involved in breeding.

Owners of puppies registered with GBGB from birth will benefit from a simplified process for naming and registering their greyhounds to race.

The fee structure is as follows:

British Breeding Register – Stud Dog/Brood Bitch Application

£25 for stud dogs, payable per annum on renewal.

No fee for brood bitches (one-off application).

Stud dogs currently registered with the ICC and intended to sire British‑bred litters can apply to join GBGB’s British Breeding Register (full GBGB registration to race will not be required).

Registering a mating

Free of charge when reported within the required 14 days (£100 for late submissions).

Register a litter of British-bred puppies

£60 per litter; includes supply of microchips for implementation by nominated vet/implanter, plus earmarking by a GBGB Earmarking Steward.

Naming of individual pups and ownership registration / GBGB registration to race

£66 fee per British-bred greyhound administrated via GBGB’s Litter Registration Service.

Only the GRS bond remains payable before the greyhound can race.

Commenting on the new service, Mark Bird, GBGB CEO, said:

“By bringing this system in-house, we have aimed to make the litter registration process quick and efficient for breeders and owners. Thank you to those who have enquired for their patience while we have been getting the systems up and running. We are also grateful to those who have provided helpful feedback and insight as we have designed and tested these new processes, which we will continue to review as they are rolled out.

“In time, we intend to build on this foundation and move towards a fully digitalised system for all licensing and registrations across the sport, making these processes more efficient and cost-effective for everyone.”

Tony Brealey, GBGB’s Owner Practitioner Director, said:

“It’s good to see the new GBGB registration system launched to give owners and breeders an alternative. It will speed up initial puppy registration and allow easier registration for racing. The accompanying policy is to support breeders to ensure they comply with current breeding regulations. I’ve had many conversations about this with Owners recently, so I’m very pleased to see the system go live.”
