Stipendiary Steward Tiffany Blackett takes on new role directing the implementation of GBGB’s long-term welfare strategy.

GBGB has announced the appointment of Tiffany Blackett as its new Executive Veterinarian. This new role has been created to provide day-to-day executive management and implementation of GBGB’s long-term welfare strategy ‘A Good Life for Every Greyhound’ which was launched in May.

A qualified Veterinary Surgeon with over 20 years’ experience, Tiffany joined GBGB in 2019 as Stipendiary Steward for the Midlands West region. Over the past three years, Tiffany has worked closely with trainers based in the Midlands, undertaking regular kennel inspections and offering help and advice as needed.  Other responsibilities included undertaking welfare checks on greyhounds, carrying out track surveillance inspections of Henlow, Towcester and Nottingham Stadia and upholding GBGB’s Rules of Racing.

Before joining GBGB, Tiffany worked for the Veterinary Poisons Information Service as an Information Scientist. She has also held positions at Twycross Zoo as a Scientific Officer and at the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter as an Animal Welfare Officer and Veterinary Surgeon.

As Executive Veterinarian, Tiffany will play a pivotal role in directing the implementation of GBGB’s new welfare strategy. In doing so, she will work with Independent Director Professor Madeleine Campbell who led the development of the strategy. As part of her role, Tiffany will provide support to veterinary surgeons attending tracks and will work closely with GBGB’s Veterinary Director Dr Simon Gower on plans to enhance training for vets and to refine provision of the Injury Recovery Scheme.

Dr Simon Gower, GBGB Veterinary Director, said:

“I look forward to working closely with Tiffany on all aspects of greyhound health and welfare. Her appointment will provide additional support for vets and trainers and will strengthen the existing veterinary team.”

Tiffany Blackett said:

“I am excited to have the opportunity to bring the welfare strategy to life and ultimately further optimise a greyhound’s welfare experience across its lifetime. There are some very positive and important initiatives being launched through the strategy and I look forward to working with the greyhound community to ensure they are implemented successfully.”
