Kevin Hutton is looking forward to more Oxford success in the future after claiming a first Category One success at the Cowley track with Resonate’s victory in the bet365 Hunt Cup Final leaving the kennel on a real high.

A first major triumph for the Hutton kennel in 2026, success for the July 2023 daughter of Droopys Sydney and Jetstream Lynx filled a void for the now Oxford-based trainer as she repeated her heat and semi-final victories in the £10,000-to-the-winner over 650m by once again leading on the dash to the turn and onwards.

Thereafter, Resonate had her rivals under pressure with a 15.18sec sectional setting up a two and a quarter lengths victory from Remember Betty (Matt Dartnall) and Java Joan (Seamus Gaughan) in a winning time of 39.64sec (-30).

“She’s a lovely bitch in the kennel and for her to get some black type as such on the board is great,” said the winning handler. “I think it surprised a few people when we told them it was our first Cat One at Oxford, but we’ve won a few Cat Twos and had finalists – not least Resonate in last year’s (bet365) Challenge Cup.

“So it was great to finally scratch that itch, especially given we’re based here. We trained Resonate’s dam (Jetstream Lynx) who was a top bitch, too, and she’s passed that talent down to not just offspring like Susie Sapphire but Resonate, too,” added Hutton who has now lined up his big-race winner for a crack at the Coral Brighton Belle at Hove.

Pat Cooney of sponsors bet365 was one of the first to congratulate winning connections and was overall delighted with the latest renewal of the Hunt Cup – even though the final was more straightforward than he expected

He said: “Having spent all week thinking how wide open our final was, it seems most punters eventually solved the puzzle, as the winner Resonate was heavily backed into 2-1 favouritism.

“Once in front at the first bend, it was pretty much all over, and she ran out a worthy winner. Well done to Kevin and his team and well done to Oxford for staging a cracking event.”
