BUBBLY INFERNO landed a surprise but fully deserved 16-1 success in the Stadium Bookmakers TV Trophy Final at Oxford on Saturday – unleashing a terrific surge of back-straight pace on the second lap to claim a popular victory.

Trained by Paul Young for The Champagne Club Syndicate, the June 2021 daughter of Good News and Bubbly Firebird was landing a fourth success in the famous competition for Romford trainer Young, meaning he is now the joint-winningmost trainer in TV Trophy history along with Mark Wallis.

Adding her name to Young’s other wins in the marathon showpiece with Serious Dog (2002) and double winner Ericas Equity (2003 and 2005), Bubbly Inferno came from way off the pace to grab the £15,000 prize after Garfiney Blaze (Mark Wallis) and Alright Patricia (David Lewis) cut out the early running.

However, favourite Ballymac Taylor (Mark Wallis) was very much on the premises in third place and look poised to strike down the far side, which is where Bubbly Inferno made her own move, the Romford raider tearing down the back to hit the front on the outside of her rivals rounding the last two bends.

Thereafter, recent Crayford 1,048m winner Bubbly Inferno was not for stopping and, while Ballymac Taylor stayed on well up the home straight, Young’s runner gained revenge for her match race defeat at the paws of the latter at Romford last October.

The victory delighted ‘Bubbly Club’ chairman Steve Fluin, who said: “I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing – it was my dream from last night coming true!

“You always hope it’ll be your night, but it was such a fantastic TV Trophy final that you never quite believed, even though this bitch is really special. She almost knows where the winning line is, proved at Crayford she never gives up and will keep on giving everything, and I’m just delighted for all the members, especially those here tonight.

“A few of the members got involved ante-post, but even those who didn’t had 16-1 on the night which was some price in hindsight. If you remember, she acquitted herself really well in the match race at Romford against Mark’s Ballymac Taylor. Some predicted it might be a walkover, but it wasn’t, it really wasn’t.

“It’s nice to get one back, of course, but Ballymac Taylor is a brilliant bitch from a great litter and Mike Davis (MWD Partnership) was one of the first people to congratulate us on the night. Kevin Boothby (Oxford promoter) was also very gracious and we thank him and his team for looking after all the members here tonight.

“They’ve all had a great time and were passing round the winning trophy, taking pictures, and giving interviews! It’s been a memorable evening, made even more special that Bubbly Inferno is by Bubbly Bluebird, probably the best greyhound the Club has been associated with, out of our own Bubbly Firebird.

“Inferno, therefore, has ‘Team Youngy’ and the Bubbly Club running right through her, so thanks to breeder Mike Westlake.

“We’ll certainly be enjoying this for a while and hope to renew rivalry with some of those she’s faced tonight – maybe at Monmore on Saturday but also in the Dorando Marathon at Towcester on Derby final night.”
