January 2020 GWA/RPGTV Greyhound of the Month – Guvnas Dream
GUVNAS DREAM was recently awarded the RPGTV/GWA Greyhound of the Month for January after polling almost 50 per cent of the vote among RPGTV viewers – a fantastic achievement given the quality of nominations the Crayford-based grader found herself up against.
Trained by Jim Reynolds, the September 2016 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Garryglass Daisy won all four of her starts at Crayford in January, impressing RPGTV viewers as she won consecutively in A8, A7, A6 and A5 races in the month.
“It was a fantastic run of form and she’s kept it up in February with two second-place finishes since,” said Reynolds. “The whole thing has been great for the kennel and for her owners Bobby Dinnen and Danny Martin. Danny actually owned her dam Garryglass Daisy who won both A1 and S1 at Romford for us, as well as an open over 400m.
“Daisy was sent over to Eleanor Riley in Ireland and had a litter of pups to Kinloch Brae. All six pups made the track with five of the litter all having a good wins-to-runs to ratio. They all have the Guvnas prefix and have won races over four, six and eight bends, with Guvnas Lass winning an open over 714m.
“This was Bobby and Danny’s first venture into breeding and both have been delighted with the resulting litter. They are also extremely proud to have won both a Bitch of the Month award at Crayford with four wins on the bounce, but also an RPGTV Greyhound of the Month award with Guvnas Dream.
“It was a great surprise to be nominated in the first place and then to win was a real bonus. We all know how difficult it is to win four races on the spin in graded racing. Quite understandably she was upped in grade each time, but came good again and again – and must have caught the imagination of RPGTV viewers!”
Clive Lawrence, RPGTV executive producer, said: “It’s not often we have a graded greyhound among the nominations, but Guvnas Dream deserved it. She had the perfect month at Crayford, winning all four races in it, defying the grader each time! Well done to her, her trainer Jim Reynolds, and the bitch’s owners.”
Guvnas Dream topped the RPGTV viewers poll in January ahead of Mark Wallis’s Antigua Rum, Paul Young’s Bubbly Buster and the Bev Heaton-trained Ballymac Ambrose.
