ICAALS ROCCO helped John Mullins match the feat of his father Pat at Harringay some 44 years ago previously when winning Saturday’s Ladbrokes.com Guys & Dolls Final at Crayford.

Paradise Spectre won the 1978 Guys & Dolls for Pat Mullins at the old London track and now it was the turn of son John’s Icaals Rocco at the Kent venue as the

July 2019 son of Pat C Sabbath and Quivers Duchess trapped smartly and made all the running to claim gold in the £5,000-to-the-winner GBGB Category Two annual.

Winning by six and a quarter lengths from Milton Rio (Heather Dimmock) and Knockard Rory (James Turner), the Alan Ballard and ICAAL Syndicate-owned Icaals Rocco clocked a fast 23.16sec (+20) for the 380m trip.

On a fantastic morning’s racing at Crayford, headlined by the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Kent St Leger Final, there were wins for Belinda Green’s Annadown Daisy in the Ladbrokes.com May Maiden Trophy Final, Ron Grey’s Bandicoot Sammy in the Ladbrokes.com Kent Vase Final and Ricky Holloway’s Lenson Doolin in the Ladbrokes.com Kent Champion Hurdle.

Crayford racing manager Danny Rayment said: “It was a great meeting here and seemed to have everything – so well done to all our winners. However, it’s always good to celebrate a local winner in our big races and very appropriate it was sponsor Karl Brazier who presented the trophy to the Coco Cabana Racing Club, owners of Rising Coco. Karl was celebrating in similar fashion after his Yahoo Victor won the Gold Collar here a few years ago.

“It was disappointing for Lee and Tony Gifkins to see their Capel Hunter suffering an injury before Burgess Hannah was beaten in the big final. We’ll all be hoping they fare better with Hannah in the Dorando Marathon on Derby final night at Towcester next month – she certainly looks tailor-made for the extended journey now.

“Congratulations to John Mullins and the ICAAL Syndicate, who we could also count as locals as they have quite a few runners with Jim Reynolds, too, a couple of which ran on Saturday for them. Icaals Rocco timed the break perfectly when he needed to in the Guys & Dolls final.

“Ron Grey travelled a long way down with Bandicoot Sammy from his north-east base on three Saturday mornings running and was rewarded with victory in the Kent Vase, catching outsider Jennifer Anne right on the line. Good luck to Ron and Sammy in the (Coral) Coronation Cup heats at Romford on Friday.

“Ricky Holloway was expected to win the Kent Champion Hurdle with Lenson Doolin but the favourite wasn’t expected to have to come from fifth to first to land the spoils aided by his kennelmate Killieford Ally losing concentration and getting disqualified.

“Also noteworthy on a high-quality morning and afternoon of racing were very fast wins in supporting contests for Blue Tick Jenny for Dan Brabon and Heather Dimmock’s Milton Mia, both adding to their already impressive Crayford CVs.”
