BO SHINE BULLET made it third time lucky in big-race company in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Kent St Leger Final at Crayford – albeit there was nothing fortunate about her impressive victory.

Trained by Mark Wallis for The Bruiser Boyz syndicate, Bo Shine Bullet had been knocked over in the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket decider before running-up to Blue Tick George in the George Ing St Leger at Yarmouth. However this time, in a third GBGB Category One competition, things fell into place for the January 2019 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Fear Emoski.

Able to ride a bump at the first bend as market rival Alaskan Dawn paced up well into the turn, Bo Shine Bullet, the evens favourite, took charge approaching the third bend and went on. Thereafter she never looked likely to be beaten as she kept up a strong gallop to cross the line six lengths clear of Heather Dimmock’s runner in 45.55sec (normal) to claim the £7,500 first prize.

A delighted winning trainer Mark Wallis said: “It was a fantastic win for Bo Shine Bullet and richly deserved after reaching her third consecutive Category One final. She was knocked over in the Golden Jacket final in February and was a good runner-up at Yarmouth recently  – and, remember, went into all three finals unbeaten.

“She didn’t have it all her own way as all the finalists broke well on Saturday and, for a second, she looked in trouble but showed real guts and determination to get round the first bend in contention and then squeezed by Alaskan Dawn at the third bend and then galloped clear for a great victory for the Bruiser lads. The (Coral) Regency at Hove will be her next target.”

Stadium manager Peter Broadbridge said: “Well done to the Bruiser Boyz syndicate and to Mark (Wallis) and his team. After enjoying absolutely no luck in the Golden Jacket final back in February, they came away with the top prize on great night’s racing here at Crayford – on a card in which all distances were used. We also had three excellent hurdles races, too.

“However, for me, the star performance on the night came from Punk Rock Doll in the Guys & Dolls Final. It was an excellent training performance by Stuart (Maplesden), giving her a change of scenery during the week with a Hove trial, and a winning time of 23.00sec was exceptional given the going was definitely not fast.

“Thanks to all the team for putting on a superb night in these difficult Covid-restricted times which hopefully all who attended thoroughly enjoyed. We had plenty of owners here, including those for the major races, and it was nice to look after some of them by way of appreciation for their own support in what has been a tough time.”
