TOWCESTER racing manager Andy Lisemore is looking forward to Sunday’s Greyhound Racing UK Northamptonshire Sprint Final – and rates it the best and most competitive across the board in the event’s short history.

“We’ve had some great and high-class winners such as Crossfield Dusty, Bockos Jon Jo and Broadway Murty last year, but this is a really competitive final and you’d have to say each of the six have a decent chance,” said Lisemore.

Last week’s semi-finals went to the Mark Wallis-trained Pavilion Team (15.68sec, normal), Reggie Allder’s Letitwithme (15.79sec) and Belinda Green’s Bombout Bullet (15.64sec) and just a length and a half separated all three winners.

That trio will be joined by respective runner-ups Yahoo Megan (Patrick Janssens), Dashing Dude (Frank Bryce) and Beaming Panther (Belinda Green) in the £3,000-to-the-winner annual over 270m – and Lisemore anticipates a close-run affair.

“I know Mark’s (Wallis) Pavilion Team is a solid favourite, but you’ve still got to get everything right in these sprints and there’s plenty of talent in and around him should there be any mistakes,” he said. “Bombout Bullet won the National Sprint at Nottingham a couple of years back for Belinda (Green) so knows what it takes to win a major competition and looks back to his best.

“Then there is Letitwithme who continues to do great things here for one of our own in Reggie Allder! He has a great record in sprints here and it’d be Reggie’s biggest win as a trainer should he get Letitwithme over the line in front on Sunday.

“Patrick Janssens obviously has a great record in the Northamptonshire Sprint with the likes of Crossfield Dusty and Bockos Jon Jo so has to be respected again with his Yahoo Megan, while John Mullins rarely leaves Towcester without a winner. Who knows it might be with Beaming Panther.

“And Frank Bryce’s Dashing Dude has really impressed us all here.”

Lisemore is looking forward to another open-race dominated card at the track on Sunday with the likes of Druids Say Go, Romeo Command, Barntick Bear among the star names.

“Patrick (Janssens) also rarely leaves us without a winner – or three! – and he’s got another strong team coming up, as has Paul Young and the likes of Richie Taberner and Jason Heath, and a number of others, helping to make it a good card,” added Lisemore.

Towcester reminds trainers that entries for the TV Trophy, the track’s next major competition, close to entries on March 12.

The famous race is for 18 greyhounds over 942m and will start with heats on March 16 with the final on March 23. It is worth £15,000 to the winner.
