MAGICAL JASON is the new kid on the sprinting block believes Towcester racing manager Danny Rayment after Kevin Hutton’s recent intake blasted to victory in the Elite Southern Supplies Northamptonshire Sprint over 270m.

On an afternoon the Betway Towcester Racecourse also staged the BGBF Two Year Old Produce Stakes for the first time, the Paul and Sarah Woodburn-owned September 2024 son of Ballymac Cashout and Magical Mary shared the stage when completing an unbeaten run through the three-round Category Two event.

Pacing up into the lead, the Pat Guilfoyle-bred runner soon had the race in safe keeping before going on to score by two lengths from Ballinakill Liam (Mark Wallis) with Longacres Trixie (Pat Doocey) in third. The winning time was a slick 15.47sec (+5).

Victory for Dundalk 400yd winner Magical Jason, a half brother of such top-notch performers as Tote Gold Cup winner Coloursaregreen and Romford joint-track record holder Magical Luka, was a fourth win from five starts since joining Burford-based Hutton, having made a winning UK debut in a Dunstall Park sprint in July.

“He was tried over 480m at Dunstall Park but didn’t quite get home, and Kevin (Hutton) put him back to sprinting for the Northamptonshire Sprint here. You’d say he’s probably a Scurry Gold Cup dog moving forward and is certainly right up there when it comes to sprinters currently. That was some performance in the final and he’s a worthy winner.”

Rayment wished to thank the sponsors Elite Southern Supplies who he said had been rewarded with a cracking event and a quality afternoon all round

“The Northamptonshire Sprint has been won by some top sprinters such as Bombout Bullet, Crossfield Dusty, Bockos Jon Jo and Broadway Murty – and you’d have to say Magical Jason is a worthy addition to that list of champion sprinters.”
