THERE were joint-winners of the RPGTV/GWA Greyhound of the Month for April with the spoils shared by record-breaking Coral TV Trophy heroine Space Jet (Matt Dartnall) and Arc Laurels champion Signet Denver (Kevin Hutton)

Trained by Matt Dartnall for Kurn Rushen, Space Jet ran unbeaten through the marathon showpiece at Hove, beginning with a track record in the heats before adding to her St Leger title last year in the £15,000 decider.

In winning, Space Jet, a February 2019 daughter of Droopys Jet and Volcano, ended the TV Trophy sequence of Aayamza Royale who was aiming for a historic third TV Trophy title in what was the final race of her career.

Meanwhile, in the same month, Signet Denver was a British-bred winner of the Arena Racing Company Laurels Final at Perry Barr as the Kevin Hutton-bred and trained runner struck for owner by Tony Brealey in the Category One showpiece.

The victory was Hutton’s first Laurels victory as the January 2020 son of Magical Bale and Forest Natalee came through a battle with Chelms Yes before taking the £10,000 decider in one of the sport’s traditional Classics.

Members of the Greyhound Writers’ Association voted in equal numbers for the pair which means connections of each will receive a trophy.

Clive Lawrence, executive producer at award sponsors RPGTV, said: “Both greyhounds thoroughly deserve the honour, so we’re more than happy to commission two trophies this month from Burridge Trophies.

“The Laurels and the TV Trophy are two of the most famous and longstanding competitions in greyhound racing so if two greyhounds are to share an award then it’s probably right these two do.”

Two other greyhounds were nominated for the April award in the shape of Arc Grand Prix heroine Coolavanny Aunty (Angela Harrison) and Arc Springbok winner Lenson Doolin (Ricky Holloway).
