Matchbook Betting Exchange Maiden Derby – Towcester 500m – £10,000
HELLOFAKERFUFFLE landed Hove trainer Jamie Kingsley a popular first GBGB Category One victory with almost a carbon-copy repeat of his impressive semi-final effort from the same trap four-box seven days previously.
Well away on his way to a 4.27sec split, the January 2020 son of Confident Rankin and Tibet was never headed as he took maximum advantage of a missed break from hot favourite Wide Open to go clear before winning by two-and-a-quarter lengths from staying-on pair of outsider Savana Camino (Jason Bloomfield) and Irish raider Wide Open (Brendan Matthews) in 29.44sec (normal) for the 500m trip.
Success for the Mark Curtis-owned Hellofakerfuffle, an A1 winner at home track Hove, was a second major triumph for the litter at Towcester given the winner’s litter brother Make Noise won last year’s Puppy Derby at the Northamptonshire circuit for Seamus Cahill.
The delighted winning trainer told RPGTV afterwards: “I’m pleased and can’t believe he’s done it, but he’s a gutsy dog. I was worried going into the bend but he showed plenty of guts.
“I bought him from Wayne Murphy and rang Mark (Curtis) to say I’d been offered the dog and he said crack on. He had a couple of runs graded at Hove but the plan was always this and I think he’ll improve for each run. The Derby is next. It’s a hard competition, of course, but we’ll see what happens.”
Towcester racing manager Andy Lisemore added: “Congratulations to connections, in particular Jamie (Kingsley) and Mark (Curtis). Hellofakerfuffle was a really impressive winner and now attempts to do what Thorn Falcon did 12 months ago – and go on to land a famous double in the Derby.
“Once again we had some impressive supporting races here on Sunday, too, with plenty of Irish visitors – and winners – and things are shaping up well.
“The Star Sports/TRC English Derby entry forms are now available from the racing office (towcester@bagsracing.com) or from both ours (towcester-racecourse.co.uk) and the GBGB (www.gbgb.org.uk) websites and we’re getting close now to the closing date for the Derby – entries close at 7pm next Tuesday.
“We will have a limit of 192 entries ahead of the first round on Thursday, May 19.”
