MONGYS WILD underlined his Greyhound of the Year claims with a fourth Category One title in 2025 with a power-packed success in the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger at Nottingham.

Already winner of the Time Greyhound Nutrition TV Trophy at Towcester, Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket at Monmore and Premier Greyhound Racing Regency at Hove, Mongys Wild improved his UK career record to 17 wins from 20 with a rousing finish to deny the gallant (Sean Parker) on the run to the line for a famous win.

The Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger and Arena Racing Company Birmingham Cup moved to Nottingham this year after the closure of Perry Barr but will both now head to Dunstall Park in 2026.

However, Mongys Wild secured his place on a legendary roll of honour as a Nottingham winner of the St Leger courtesy of a typically strong-running display, albeit actually trapped in front in the £20,000 feature.

Quickly passed by the early pace of kennemate Vhagar – one of three Wallis-trained runners in the 730m final along with the winner and dual Cesarewitch winner Garfiney Blaze – and Droopys Flare, it was the Sheffield runner who forged ahead crossing the winning one for time.

Droopys Flare now had the better of Vhagar and Fabulous Heka (Patrick Janssens) before Mongys Wild, who was never far away and who now made significant ground down the back-straight, found a way through rivals ahead and hit the front on the run for home for a length and a quarter victory in 43.85sec (+70).

For Wallis, victory for the MWD Partnership-owned Mongys Wild started the week in the best possible style as he prepares to send out Proper Heiress in Saturday’s BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Final at Shelbourne Park.

“It was a great to start to the week, especially after hearing on Saturday night we’d been given a second chance in the Irish Derby. Mike (Davis, MWD Partnership) actually managed to get to the Irish Derby lunch at Shelbourne on Monday afternoon before flying back to England and driving to Nottingham

“He got to Nottingham with half hour to spare – some day I’d say!” added Wallis who is now looking at the Ballyregan Bob Memorial at Hove later this year as a possible target for Mongys Wild, a race kennelmate Garfiney Blaze won last year.

Mongys Wild’s victory also landed Wallis a record sixth St Leger title after wins for Kinda Easy (2009), Aero Majestic (2011), Blonde Reagan (2012), Ferryforth Fran (2016) and Rubys Rascal (2017).
