BRADYS BULLET, trained by Belinda Green for owners Billy Boyle, Dave Lawrence, Gary Whittington plus the Hove handler herself, was recently named the RPGTV/GWA Greyhound of the Month for March.

Winner of the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby Final at Monmore, Bradys Bullet received the most votes in a poll of Greyhound Writers’ Association members and claimed the honour in a hugely strong month ahead of Antigua Sugar (Mark Wallis), Brookside Richie (Jimmy Fenwick), Coolavanny Shado (Patrick Janssens), Droopys Good (Patrick Janssens), Fromposttopillar (Liz McNair) and Romeo Command (Patrick Janssens).

However, in what was considered one of the best Monmore Puppy Derbys of recent years, success in the £20,000 showpiece for the July 2021 son of Good News and Early Rise proved enough to secure the award for connections.

Clive Lawrence, executive producer at award sponsors RPGTV, said: “Well done to Belinda and all the team – they’re having a good time of it just now. Bradys Bullet, or Tommy as he’s known at the kennels, was brilliant on the night to win the Monmore Puppy Derby and I know he’s very much Derby-bound now after an issue with his tonsils. They’ve been sorted and he trialled at Hove on Monday. All looks good.

“Well done to the connections of all the nominations in March. It was probably one of the strongest months we’ve had with a host of top-class winners and I know Fromposttopillar went pretty close to winning the award after success in the Kent Plate. He is currently favourite for the Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby which, for us here at RPGTV, is very much occupying our minds just now.

“I’m delighted that SportyStuff TV/RPGTV will once again broadcast the English Greyhound Derby live on the channel. We’ll have every race from Towcester from the first night of first-round action on Thursday, May 25, to the final on Saturday, July 1, and will have reporters on track for each night bringing us all the latest news and reaction from what is the biggest competition in the sport. Good luck to connections of all the intended runners – and well done once again to Bradys Bullet.”

Tony Williamson, Monmore racing manager, paid his own tribute to the Hove-trained tracker.

He said: “That was a tremendous final and Bradys Bullet pulled out all the stops to reel in Cooligold and Links Maverick, who both ran super races for their respective trainers Maxine Locke and Tom Heilbron. You felt you were watching a top-class final unfold and I’m sure all those involved will progress and feature in the major all-aged competitions to come – including the Derby.”
