National Greyhound Week to Return for a Second Year
The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) is excited to announce that National Greyhound Week (NGW) will be returning at the end of August this year.
NGW will run from 26th August – 1st September 2024 and will be dedicated to celebrating all aspects of British licensed greyhound racing. In particular, the week will seek to promote the sport’s appeal to families and as something that people of all ages and from all walks of life can enjoy.
This second annual NGW follows last year’s successful event which saw tracks from across the country attracting significant crowds of existing and new spectators to enjoy exciting race nights, meet retired racers and engage with GBGB’s NGW Roadshow. Highlights included Oxford Stadium setting a new attendance record since its re-opening and Romford Stadium holding a “Kids’ Day” which gained over 500 attendees.
Each track will be participating in its own way, from staging special NGW races to organising activities for young attendees. In preparation for the launch of the week, Valley Stadium, celebrating its first year of operating as a GBGB licensed racecourse, will be hosting a Family Fun Day on 25th August which hopes to draw in new crowds from the surrounding area.
Throughout the week, GBGB will be taking its NGW Roadshow to a number of tracks across the country and will also be running a special NGW Trap Challenge. Entrants must pick the trap they think will produce the most winners across all races which take place at GBGB licensed tracks during NGW. The winner will secure a table for four in the restaurant of a track of their choice.
In addition, GBGB’s Greyhound Ambassadors will be visiting several tracks with their retired greyhounds to showcase what excellent pets greyhounds make and give attendees an opportunity to meet former racers.
Speaking about the week, GBGB Commercial Director Mark Moisley said:
“We are so pleased that National Greyhound Week is returning for a second year following the success of last year’s event. This is an excellent opportunity to bring the racing community together to enjoy the thrill of greyhound racing and celebrate everyone who supports the sport.
“We hope that this will be a chance to attract new crowds to experience the excitement of a race night, and show what an exciting, accessible and affordable activity greyhound racing is for the whole family.
“A big thank you to all licensed stadia for their support of National Greyhound Week.”
