The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has opened nominations for the Kennelhand of the Year Award. The Award, which will be presented at GBGB’s Greyhound of the Year Awards 2024, honours one exceptional kennelhand for their commitment to caring for their greyhounds.

As previously announced, the GBGB Greyhound of the Year Awards are being held at The Milner Hotel in York on the evening of Thursday 6th March 2025.

Nominations are now open and anyone involved in the industry can nominate a kennelhand who they believe has shown tremendous dedication and who always goes that extra mile. Nominations should be emailed to awards@gbgb.org.uk with the subject line ‘Kennelhand of the Year 2024’. Nominations should include the nominee’s name and a detailed description of why they are a deserving recipient as well as the contact details of the person submitting the nomination. Nominations must be received by Sunday 19th January.

The winner will receive £500, two tickets to the Awards Ceremony and accommodation as well as the prestigious Kennelhand of the Year trophy.

Mark Bird, Chief Executive of GBGB said:

“The Kennelhand of the Year Award recognises some of our sport’s most hard-working individuals, and shines a light on the excellent care our greyhounds receive on a daily basis.

“Along with trainers, kennelhands work long, unsociable hours to ensure the needs of the greyhounds in their care are properly met. This award is an opportunity to celebrate and thank them for their hard work and commitment.

“I have no doubt there will be a strong field of nominees and I look forward to welcoming those shortlisted to our awards ceremony in York.”

Tickets for the event are due to go on sale in the New Year.
