PROPER HEIRESS is aiming to complete a superb return to the track when the reigning GBGB Greyhound of the Year lines up from trap one in the £20,000-to-the-winner final of the Premier Greyhound Racing Kent Derby at Central Park on Saturday. However, in a red-hot final, his trainer Mark Wallis knows only his best will do.

“It’s a great final and great for greyhound racing to see so many good dogs in the final,” said champion trainer Wallis who is hoping victory for Proper Heiress can keep him in touch with Trainer of the Year leaders Maxine Locke and Paul Young.

“I’m certainly not giving up the chase, but we’ll need to win a few more Cat Ones this year!

“Obviously we’ve high hopes for Harry. He didn’t quite trap as well as in the semis as he did in the heats, but you tend to get that second time up. He was very fresh first time back after a long time off, but hopefully can make the most of the inside come Saturday.”

Wallis has hinted retirement for the six-time Category One winner might not be far away with potential targets at Nottingham for the Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse and Hove for the Coral Olympic – events he won in 2025 – also suggested as targets, although it is very much a case of one race at a time for the September 2022 son of Droopys Sydney and Powerful Mush.

In Saturday’s semi-finals, Proper Heiress followed up his track record in the heats with another comprehensive victory, pacing up to grab the initiative from fast-starting outsider Watchha Gotcookin (Kerry Schimmefennig) before crossing the line two and a half lengths clear of the local hope in 28.77sec (normal) for the 491m trip.

Underground Gold, the Arc Select Stakes champion, followed up his own heat success with a fluent off-the-front victory in the first semi-final as Paul Young’s dog quickly put the contest to bed to score by five and a quarter lengths from Scooby Mustang (Carol Weatherall) in a fastest-of-the-night 28.48sec (normal).

Just one spot slower with another impressive performance was Arc Kent Plate winner Scooby The Lady, a half sister of Scooby Mustang and former track record holder, as Richard Rees’ brilliant bitch raced to the front on the dash to the bend to score by two and a half lengths in 28.49sec (normal) for the one-lap trip at the Sittingbourne venue.
