Richie Taberner double-handed in Monday’s Arena Racing Company National Sprint Final at Nottingham
AERO PATTIKA aims to round off an incredible year for the litter from which he came when lining up in Monday’s Arena Racing Company National Sprint Final at Nottingham.
A September 2022 son of Dorotas Wildcat and Seaglass Shadow, the Richie Taberner-trained runner is one of two finalists for the Monmore trainer and bids to add to successes in 2024 for littermates Bockos Diamond and March On Freddie.
Bockos Diamond was a record-breaking winner last month of the BoyleSports Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park for Graham Holland, while March On Freddie plundered August’s JenningsBet Puppy Classic title at Nottingham for David Mullins.
It means a Colwick Park big-race double could be on the cards for the litter after Aero Pattika’s semi-final success on Monday for Taberner.
Forcing his way through inside fast-starting defending champion Bombout Bullet (Belinda Green) between the first and second bends, the 7-1 chance raced away for success in the first semi-final, albeit hot favourite Rioja Oisin (Kevin Hutton) closed on the run for home, beaten three-quarters of a length. The winning time was 17.79sec (+10).
Stonepark Hoffa then posted the fastest semi-final time in the second semi as Savva Roberts’ Sunderland Classic semi-finalist stormed to the front on the run to the bend before coming away for a three-length success in 17.58sec (+10) for the 305m trip, leading home Newinn Souly (Kim Billingham-Hine) who joins him in Monday’s final.
Just one spot slower in the third semi-final was another Newcastle tracker in Niosfearrnabolt as Chloe Hardy’s runner led at the first bend before streaking clear by three and three-quarter lengths from Alien Bolt in 17.59sec (+10), the latter making it a second Richie Taberner-trained National Sprint finalist.
David Evans, Nottingham general manager, said: “It’s a great final here on Monday and a real pre-Xmas treat for everyone.
“Well done to the Monmore trainers Richie Taberner and Kim Billingham-Hine who have half the field between them, with Newcastle also well presented with two runners for Chloe Hardy and Savva Roberts. Kevin Hutton also has a finalist for Oxford, so fair play to all those who have travelled for this year’s National Sprint.
“It’s the end-of-year sprint championship and, given this is our final meeting before Christmas, we’re looking forward to a really good atmosphere – both trackside and in the restaurant here.”
Trap draw for Monday’s Arena Racing Company National Sprint Final: 1 Aero Pattika, 2 Niosfearrnabolt, 3 Stonepark Hoffa, 4 Rioja Oisin (m), 5 Alien Bolt (m), 6 Newinn Souly (m).
