SAVANA RUINART underlined her growing reputation with victory in the JenningsBet Select Stayers Stakes at Nottingham.

Part of a triple-header of big races at the Colwick Park venue on Monday including the JenningsBet Select Stakes and JenningsBet Puppy Classic, the six-bend feature went to an impressive effort from the March 2019 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Redzer Ruby.

Trained by Diane Henry for Kevin Boothby, Savana Ruinart arrived with an extensive Irish card including wins at Clonmel, Limerick and Cork when known as Redzer Ruinart, including reaching the final of the SIS Cambridgeshire at Limerick.

A litter sister of Regency heroine Troy Suzieeq and 2020 TV Trophy runner-up Redzer Renae, the three-year-old made a winning UK debut in a 500m maiden before stepping up in distance at Nottingham for the £2,500-to-the-winner six-bend invitation.

Henry said: “Savana Ruinart and her sister Savana Regera came to me in February, bought out of a Clonmel final which Kevin sponsored and where the sisters finished first and second.

“At the presentation Kev offered to purchase both as he really liked the look of them. They were very classy bitches. Yes, they had age on their side but I don’t mind that.

“I lost a lot of time with Ruinart. She quickly came in season then sustained an injury in training. Her first race was a 500m maiden at Towcester which she won by nearly seven lengths in early August.

“It wasn’t until I trialled her at Nottingham in the hope she’d get in the Select Stayers with her Irish form that I saw her four-bend pace against our own Savana Beau. He was beating her four lengths, now she’s beating him, and to run down a Derby finalist being a strong-running one was impressive.

“When I got the call she’d been selected I was delighted – it made my day. I thought she’s ready as she could be with what time I could work with.

“Monday night in that race she put her all in. Being off six months with only one 500m race back and to then run 730m was some ask and, if she folded in any way, you wouldn’t have been shocked – but she didn’t. She ran strong throughout, although was a little tired the day after which is totally expected.

“Nottingham held a cracking night. Trainers and owners were made to be feel special so thank you to them. It’s just a shame those nights don’t get the old Sky Sports coverage anymore.

“I was very pleased for Kevin as he’s been very patient to see this girl run. It meant a lot to him her winning given a very busy week with all the pressure of Oxford’s reopening. Seeing his dogs run is his real joy in life.

“It’s Perry Bar next for the St Leger and she has a sprint trial on Saturday. I think she could go far with her pace early and seeing out the trip strong.

“She’ll be staying six bends for a while as she’s only just started back. I take each race at a time with dogs rather than plan too far ahead.”
